Famous last Words... (Full Version)

The idea with the “Famous Last Words” post, was to visually transmit a message, which seemed opportune with the blog’s information flow.

We either missed our set out objective, or we’ve spawned up more curiosity than expected about this video, as some readers have asked us to fully translate the subtitles.

This video, we remind you, up to now only served two purposes: the first, to “prove” that Mrs Fenn did indeed live in the apartment G5, the one exactly above the 5A; and second, to show how Mrs Fenn was not exactly a stranger in telling a fib, with such passion that only time would reveal how much so she was able to pull one off.

The latter has been said so, again and again, in our blog

The first, might just be the subject of a future post

But back to the video and its subtitles.

Here are their literal translation:

“Sinceramente, não sei de nada“ / “Sincerily, I don’t know anything“

“Estou aqui há três meses“ / “I've been here for three months“

“e, durante esse período de tempo, nunca falei com um jornalista“ / “and during that period of time, I’ve never talked to a journalist“

“A imprensa inglesa só tem publicado disparates“ / “The English press has only published nonsense“

I haven’t said single word“

Nunca… são só disparates“ / “Never… it’s all nonsense“

“Por favor, esqueçam isso“ / “Please, forget that“

Not wanting our readers to lose any information, here’s the actual video.

It was aired Aug 22nd, 2007 (a Wednesday):

Transcription of the original:

I know nothing. I’ve been here for three months… until all this happened I’ve never spoken to a journalist, they’ve written rubbish in the English papers, I haven’t even uttered a word!
I never (sighs)… it’s all rubbish!
Please, please, just forget it”

The translated transcription:

“The PJ has heard again, this week, the British octogenarian who lives above the apartment from where Maddie disappeared, but Pamela Fenn, botherered by the journalists’ attention, denied having spoken with the police and said she didn’t have any information about the case

At the age 81 the quietness of this retired British woman seems to have been seriously shaken, after an outburst at the hairdresser, the news that she was a witness in Maddie’s process quickly reached the journalists’ ears. Pamela Fenn lives on the floor above apartment 5 A from where the girl disappeared. According to what she might have told the police, on the day before Madeleine disappeared, that night, she heard the child crying and calling for her father for long minutes.

That, and the fact that she spends most time on the veranda with a view to the Tapas restaurant, made the police return to the Ocean Club on Monday morning. For about four hours the investigators were particularly interested to see if she had seen someone from the MCCann group leave the restaurant to go check on the children, and on the content of the brief conversation that Pamela had with Maddie’s mother on the night the girl disappeared.

Bothered to be under the journalists’ sights, the English elderly denies being a witness in the process and ensures that what the press says is pure speculation.

Honestly, I’ve… I know nothing. I’ve been here for three months… until all this happened I’ve never spoken to a journalist, they’ve written rubbish in the English papers, I haven’t even uttered a word!
I never (sighs)… it’s all rubbish!
Please, please, just forget it

As for the McCann couple they’ve a rented house in Praia da Luz until the second week of September. Despite having left attending the Ocean Club, Kate and Gerry continue to shop at the nearby supermarket. This Wednesday the car was parked a few meters from Robert Murat’s door, the English businessman who still remains as the sole “arguido” in the process.

Don't forget. This was SIC.

  1. Curious...the SIC reporter says that Mr. Fenn denied ever having talked, yet that IS NOT what we hear in the piece. She says she never talked to any journalists (british), she does not say she never went to the police to make a statement. She hardly could, could she? It was on official record, but, thinking it over, by that time she, no one in fact, expected the police records to be made public...maybe she felt she could get away with denying it all.
Her statement was made on the 20th August, this video is from two days later only, I wonder how the british media got to know of her visit to the PJ and the statement she made...did she boast about her little visit to the PJ in the hair salon...?

  2. Hi Textusa. A pleasure to read as usual. Just a small suggestion...since this is a "blog of record" (as in "The Times" - "newspaper of record") you could have added for the benefit of "neophytes" a transcript of Mrs. Fenn's actual statement to the PJ just in case people are mislead by her impromptu "press conference".

You already have commentators using the expression "Mrs. Fenn BT and AT" (before and after Textusa) which could easily suggest to a "passer-by" Mrs. Fenn never told the PJ what she is on record as having said. Perhaps her "tribal instincts" got the better of her in the end - ideology hangs in the ether like an episteme, you know .

    Here is the relevant excerpt:

Witness statement of Pamela Fenn PJ Files:

Processo IX, pages 2412 to 2414

    Date: 2007/08/20
    Time: 15H30

"She states that on the day of the 1st May 2007, when she was at home alone, at approximately 22H30 she heard a child cry, and that due the tone of the crying seemed to be a young child and not a baby of two years of age or younger.

Apart from the crying that continued for approximately one hour and fifteen minutes, and which got louder and more expressive, the child shouted "Daddy, Daddy", the witness had no doubt that the noise came from the floor below. At about 23H45, an hour and fifteen minutes after the crying began, she heard the parents arrive..." (quote/unquote)

You have two crowds to lie to:

    (1) one made of journalists
    (2) another of policemen

to which would you lie and/or tell the truth for that matter?

    It's a no brainer :)

  3. Caught the attention of the police because She spends a lot of time seat on her varenda above the 5A and facing the Tapas. Was obviously a privileged spectator to the show that was going on below. Which was probably a quite show, with 2 or 3 people, including G moving some luggage away from the 5a. Later probably she saw another movement-the fake abductor holding a fake Madeleine, looking for a witness which should not be the old lady above due to the circumstantial inconveniencies.
The lady suffer from a mouth problem. She talk too much and made some confidences at her hairdresser. The hairdresser had other clients to who she passed the confidences and soon Mrs Fenn become a target for journalists. They want to know what she saw and which conversation she had with Kate McCann on the night Maddie disappeared.
The video is from SIC ( a dubious station on that affair ) but I believe some journalists know exactly what was the confidence Mrs Fenn made to the hairdresser and decide to bother the old lady with very disturbing questions letting her out of the set and forcing her to lie again.
Both, her and Kate tried hard to pass the idea they don't know each other. Even the story Mrs.Fenn told the police about the way she become aware of the girl that went missing just behind her nose, is very suspicious. She must know well the Mccann's . With 3 children is almost impossible to pass unnoticed to a neighbor that spends hours in the veranda. That physical proximity kills any possibility of the crying episode with OC staff involved in calling the parents, to be true. Will be much easier for a old lady to just complaint to the parents, from her veranda and ask if they could manage better their child's.
The new post of Pat Brown is about the Smiths sights V JT. Interesting, I think I can say she is arriving at the same conclusion you sisters, arrived months ahead. The only possibility for the abductor not being Gerry is if he has an alibi for the crucial time around the Smiths sight. I think, he and O'Brien have none. Jez less and less becomes a non independent witness and PJ must have proves for that. On top of that the statements of the Tapas waiters who could be done to protect them regarding the negligence, incriminate Gerry and O'Brien regarding the abduction, because leave them absent from the Table for quite long time. Pat tested the walking way trough the Smiths sight and she says 8 minutes is enough to go trough the Smiths way, dispose a body and come back. According to the waiters, both man were out for more then 8 minutes. Well done, Tapas 9 attraped by their own mud.
Wonder if the Fund will be enough to pay the legal team that needs to be hired by the Tapas 7, the manager of the OC, plus other guests, special the ones involved on the Tapas list, to save them from a so hediondo cover up.
In Portugal, millions of Euros were spend not only in the investigation but also in the search with very expensive tools to cover all the possibilities. All to search a dead girl who disappeared already under that condition and such condition was known by who got involved in the cover up. Portugal will never forgive you. You need to face justice, to dignify the life of Maddie and the life of all potential Maddies. Accidents are imprevisible and could happen under any circumstance with the most careful parents. What happened after, is what has no excuses and cannot be erased under any
    permisse.
I can imagine the feeling of millions of honest people who contribute to the Fund, thinking their money was to search and help the girl. They were fooled and must be angry with all that shame.

  4. I have a friend of mine who says that a woman is like an apartment, she may have a great view, but it’s the room disposition and its practicality inside that counts in the end, because, once you get used to the view, you only appreciate it from time to time, while you use the inside of the apartment every day.

This to say, that not only was Mrs Fenn with a room with a view over Tapas. There were many others. And in early May, an elderly lonesome woman wouldn’t spend her evenings on the veranda looking at a deserted bar. And if the bar was filled up and noisy, that would be lesser of a reason to be there.

That is a lame excuse to use to have Fenn’s statement. I remember The Sun reporting it on the 19th that she would be going to the PJ because the PJ didn’t give her any importance! So it was she that went to the Police and not the other way around. SIC is just inventing an excuse as to why she gives the statement.

  5. Why park your car in front of the presumed abductor of your daughter, when there are plenty other parking spaces around? This was August, all the media vans had left already. This means they knew they had nothing to fear from Murat because they already knew he wasn't guilty!

Is it possible Mrs Fenn's phone was hacked? Gerry told the Leveson Inquiry his and Kate's phones were not hacked (not that I believe that for a second)but this is a perfect example of the hacking scandal. Who would Mrs Fenn be speaking to? Who would K & G be talking about?

I was questioning why a film crew just happened to be hanging round OC wanting to interview her.

There are so many lies coming from so many people it's better to be sceptical about everything until the truth is obvious.

So as incriminatorias. Cont

  10. 9:56,

Mccann's or somebody on their behalf manipulated mrs Fenn and ask her a favor- the statement she gave to the police.

A source related with Mccann's passed the information to the British journalists.

Obvious. Was a good business for the Mccann's who had a problem to bake an abduction without evidences, and was a good business for the British tabloids who so desperately were looking for something to print and save their sales.

  11. Cont:
Afinal a crianca chorou forte e demoradamente. Impossivel nao lembrar no dia seguinte e na semana seguinte.
Afinal so a eles convinha este depoimento e sobretudo, so a eles convinha que o depoimento fosse tornado publico.

  12. My opinion is that Mrs Fenn was promised that as she was speaking AGAINST the McCanns (rubbing in the negligence) that it would be no problems. After all she was helping the cops blame the copule and not helping them get away.
But what she didn't expect was the way the media wanted her statement to be public. She's convinced over the weekend, goes to the cops on Monday and has the cameras waiting for her on Wednesday. She thought like so may others, like Wilkins, the McCluskey's and so many others that her statement would be heard by the police and that was that, and it wasn't.
The whole thing is staged. The man doesn't help with the bags. Who has opened the door? The man who is waiting downstairs? Or are their other workers inside? If there are, what's he doing downstairs? Why does he need a nod from Fenn to go in the direction she has to go? All staged.

  13. Notice Mrs Fenn at 00:20 on the video:

She takes agrocery bag with her righ hand, turns, doesn't bend down to put it on the floor, and then turns back and with her right hand, reaches up to what we think is to close the trunk. She must've given the bag to someone. On the next shot, she appears to carry the bags all on her own? Who did she pass the grocery bag to? Where is that person? ALL STAGED!!!

"Are we ever going to find out the truth about the 'bag' that was found in Portugal and said to contain such items as jeans, fleece top, shower curtain, child's green top, rubber band, child's pencil case, and some sort of material, a sheet or blanket? The clothing was said to have traces of previously frozen bodily matter attached to it.

This information was commented on by the McCanns themselves at the time, as they said they hoped it would prove to be a lead of some kind.

Though the UK media said the bag was a carrier bag, the Portuguese said it was a blue/black? suitcase type bag. There is a big difference between the two. Was the description of it being a 'carrier bag' courtesy of Clarence Mitchell?

Did the forensics ever do work on the contents, and if so, what was the outcome? Just what was that all about?"

I never heard about a bag found with this items. Is it true or is a myth?
I read on papers, about a plastic bag found with a towel. And I think was Kate on her statement who said, JT saw the abductor and he was wearing Jeans. JT said on her statement, he was wearing beige trousers.

No surprise the BHs are delighted with Pat Blog. Will be like that until she starts debunking Mrs. Fenn statements, the Tapas list and some statements of some guests like the Berrys.

Everything is ok, if the criminal profiler remain keeping the issue as Tapas 9 only.
Up to now, what I see, is a confirmation of what Textusa exposed many months/ years ahead. Just wait until the profiler makes the obvious connections with who was there available and helped with the cover up.
Criminology at his essence, is a science. Science, sometimes take time to prove his steps but there is no way to misinterpretation of some parameters that are very objective.

What a problem... The lady can't come back and go to court to say she was mistaken and change her roll on the story.
It is clear, she lied to help baking a negligence which could help the Mccann's with abduction if other evidences were found to support it. There is no such evidences.
Over the time, that story become a pile of crimes. The cover up was one of the biggests.

Was a surprise for me, she talking about a couple with a girl ( no mention of the condition of the girl) on the early morning of May 4 (before the sunrise).
That makes me thinking of Kate defending she never searched her daughter because was cold, etc, after all the negative feeling her behavior developed on the public.
Did she really never search her daughter or she went out with her husband, before the sun riser and wanted to pass the other message because they were afraid about who could have caught them?

  24. The case had been on the media for three months. The first reports that the dogs pointed their noses at the McCanns were already public. This woman supposedly says something in a hairdresser, the hairdresser goes to the cops and the cops rush to PdL. The Sun says it’s because of them that Fenn is going to speak because the cops have ignored her the whole time. When this video is made, she knows she’s gone to the police, but strongly denies the story that journalists have published that we now know were true: she did go to the Police.
Why deny? Fear of reprisals? Who from? The McCanns? Were they some sort of gangsters? Want of privacy? Sure, but a “no comment” would be enough. Or, please address your questions to the police”. Why call rubbish what she knows is true? If her conscience was clear, all she didn’t have to say much, if she wanted to say anything, and could always use Gerry’s favorite argument of “I’m bound by the Portuguese secrecy laws”. No, she clearly says it’s rubbish. Like if she had done an internal job that had to be done, and nobody else was supposed to know any better. Rubbish, yes, Mrs Fenn are your words. Why? Maybe Panda, Edna Glyn or Linda may help…

I recall Mrs Fenn's daughter talking to journalists at the time and I remember thinking 'here we go again' file it under the 'maddie seen in australia folder' its all utter rubbish then these people attempt to back track about what they have said.

But well done to you Textusa you keep digging and annoying the BH.
