Why?

(pictures from the Sun)

Do not ask why the stone has fallen to the ground

But rather why it is that on it is nowhere to be found

Nor ask why this journey of thousands or even millions of miles

Over mountains so high they say they can touch the moon and she smiles

Sailing, they say, rivers of lava and seas with waves of rock and foam of steel

One huge tale weaved by so many tales told by liars of thieves who forget to steal

But do ask why such a short journey needed deceit of its distance in tireless try

And why do they think we will ever believe that pigs and elephants crisscross the sky

The ground did not move that night and all know the stone on it fell

Together they gathered and swore that it was a breeze that whooshed it far and long

Cowards who today sing the tale of the missing stone will one day be ashamed to tell

That the bedtime story they have told their children for a decade they knew it so wrong

As we all know they know where the stone fell and why it hasn’t been found as well

A detective tipped to head up the Madeleine McCann probe was warned he would be ordered to prove she was abducted and ignore other leads.

Colin Sutton said a high-ranking friend in the Met called him and warned him not to lead the case when Scotland Yard announced it would get involved in 2010.

The source warned that he would be tasked with proving her parents Kate and Gerry were innocent and ignoring any alternatives to the abduction theory, he claims.

Speaking to Martin Brunt on Sky News, he said: 'I did receive a call from a very senior met police officer who knew me and said it wouldn’t be a good idea for me to head investigation on the basis that I wouldn’t be happy conducting an investigation being told where I could go and where I couldn’t go, the things I could investigate and the things I couldn’t.

Asked to clarify what he meant, he added: 'The Scotland Yard investigation was going to be very narrowly focused and that focus would be away from any suspicion of wrongdoing on the part of the McCanns or the tapas friends.'

The Tapas Nine refers to the McCann parents and the seven friends they were out to dinner with when Madeleine disappeared in 2007.

They were interviewed by Portuguese Police, who have always worked on the basis that Madeleine was abducted from her room, but Mr Sutton said other possibilities should be entertained.

Speaking on Searching for Maddie, which looks at the case ten years on from her disappearance, he criticises the narrow focus of both Portuguese and British police.

He added: 'If you are conducting a re-investigation you start at the very beginning. Look at all the accounts all the evidence all the initial statements and go through them and make sure they stack up and they compare.'

The documentary revealed details from a Home Office report on the case, ordered by then Labour minister Alan Johnson before the 2010 election, seen by Sky News' Martin Brunt.

The report shows that Gerry and Kate McCann's relationship with Portuguese police after they closed the investigation into her disappearance.

The Met took the unusual step of getting involved in the case in 2010 after the report was compiled, and recommends police collaborate with private investigators hired by the McCanns because of the 'unique nature of the case'.

However, it also reveals that much of the information gathered by investigators had not been shared with police investigating the case so far.

Highlighting the 'turbulent relationship' between the parents and detectives, it describes how the McCann's felt badly treated by the Portuguese authorities.

They were called in to speak to officers then asked to wait for hours, only for a detective never to appear, in treatment they described as 'inhumane'.

The relationship broke down entirely when Portuguese police closed the investgation in to Madeleine's disappearance in in Praia de Luz.

When the Met Police came in, they also fell out with local police. The Met would later fall out with the McCanns too, the report revealed.

Mr Johnson wanted to find out if the Met should intervene further in the case so the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre investigated.

It was commissioned in late 2009, completed by March 2010 and published in May 2010, MailOnline understands.

In May 2011 the Home Office launched the Scotland Yard review of the case. The Met's investigation has cost £11million so far.

The report said: 'It is clear that from the beginning the McCanns felt there was a lack of clarity and communication on the part of the Portuguese police.

'Despite the involvement of British consular staff, they were, by their own accounts, left for long periods without any updates or communication with the investigators.

'They state they were taken to the police station on more than one occasion and then left for hours waiting to speak to someone who never materialised.

'They describe this situation as inhumane, with no real consideration for their emotional and physical wellbeing.'

The report also reveals tensions between the Portuguese and British police, with the Met accused of acting 'like a colonial power'.

The report says: 'Clearly, the McCanns have had a turbulent relationship with both Portuguese and UK law enforcement. They now openly acknowledge that there is a distinct lack of trust between all parties.'

The police in Britain and Portugal say they are working together to find Madeleine, who vanished on May 3 2007.

The documentary was aired just hours after it emerged the former Portuguese detective Goncalo Amaral claimed Madeleine's body was cremated in a TV interview.

The detective, one of the leading investigators early in the case, made the wild statement hours after her parents vowed to take him back to court over other claims.

Amaral made his latest statement on a TV documentary to be aired on the 10th anniversary of her disappearance from the Praia da Luz resort in Portugal.

The claims will add to the anguish of her parents who, in a moving interview this week, said they have still not given up hope on seeing Madeleine again.

Amaral said she may have been hidden in another British woman's coffin as she was cremated, and said the church where Madeleine's parents prayed was key.

He said: 'We had information three figures went into the church via a side door at night. They had a box and there was to be a cremation of a British woman.

'It is possible the child's remains were in this box and cremated as well. The parents had the key to the church,' reports The Sun.

The claim is the latest spark in a long dispute between Amaral, who was booted off the Madeleine case, and Kate and Gerry McCann.

Amaral, 57, claimed in The Truth Of The Lie that Madeleine died at the McCann's holiday house and Kate and Gerry covered it up.

The McCanns won a libel case against Amaral in 2015, and he was ordered to pay them 250,000 euros (£209,000) each in damages.

But this was overturned on appeal and that decision upheld in another court this April, meaning Amaral is now able to sue the McCanns for damages potentially totalling tens of thousands of pounds.

During the interview, BBC presenter Fiona Bruce asked the McCanns: 'One of the police officers in Portugal has been a thorn in your side for many years, he was thrown off the investigation but then he wrote a book ... and you fought it through the courts

'At the moment you've lost and he's won. Is this the end for you now, are you going to continue to fight him?'

Mr McCann replied: 'I think the short answer is we have to because the last judgment I think is terrible.

Today a flower garden in tribute to the 140,000 children who go missing annually in Britain has been opened on the eve of the 10th anniversary of Madeleine McCann's disappearance.

The floral memorial, nestled deep in the lush green lawns of Chiswick House in west London, was opened with a performance by the Missing People Choir.

The group, which recently melted hearts on Britain's Got Talent, is made up of families with loved ones who have vanished

Sarah Godwin, whose 18-year-old son Quentin went missing in 1992, said: 'It's absolutely beautiful, I'm stunned.

'It's going to be lovely to come back here, see the plants growing ... and just be able to sit here and think about my son and other missing children.

'My son was a very passionate gardener and kept bees ... so the nature aspect means quite a lot to me.

'Spring has that lovely feeling of warmth and renewal after winter, and May is when my son went missing, so it's pretty powerful.'

The garden was created by designer Esra Parr, and features many species of forget-me-nots.

It is part of the charity Missing People's countdown to International Missing Children's Day on May 25.

Peter Boxell, whose son Lee disappeared in 1988, said standing and singing in the garden 'filled me with so much emotion'.

Mr Boxell, who wrote the lyrics to the song I Miss You, added singing was 'really healing for us to get our emotions out'.

Missing People chief executive Jo Youle said the permanent floral feature would be a place for families to 'reflect and remember and be reassured that there are others who are thinking of their missing loved one too'.

  5. We ask readers to not discard the purple woman so easily.

For some reason the other side is trying to ridicule her.

With Euclides Monteiro it was the effort to make it very clear that it was ridiculous to even consider the man a suspect and that he was cleared by the Portuguese police.

With the purple woman we are witnessing a significant effort of ridiculing her possible importance by having people say absurdities about her.

The purple woman could well be a loose end if pulled may unravel the truth.

    Many people are feeling pessimistic.

Until we have someone from the Met, just like Detective Inspector Jon Cousins of South Yorkshire Police, standing before reporters and say

“It is my professional belief that Maddie McCann [died as a result of… or was abducted by… or it is impossible to determine what caused her disappearance] where [she] was last [seen or whatever]” followed by “based on the information that I have now, as a result of an extensive and thorough investigation, it is without doubt that the current line of enquiry is the most probable cause for [Maddie’s] disappearance.”

Then, and only then can one say what one has to say about the conclusion of Operation Grange.

If one takes what the press has been saying to conclude that Operation Grange is to archive – which, we repeat is a possibility we have never discarded but have defended as a real possibility – then one has to assume one agrees Dino Barkas killed Ben Needham.

If one predicts every single day that it will rain tomorrow, then one can boast that one has been able to predict correctly every single day it rains.

Plus, such a foresighted individual can then even say “Oh, how I wished I was wrong” in case it does rain or sigh loudly in relief “Oh, how glad I am that I was wrong!” if the sun shines.

She made no mention of this in her police statements at the time, in fact saying she was home all night and didn't hear of the disappearance until the next morning. And of course, why wait 10 years to mention it??

    3. Yesterday I was feeling pessimistic after reading the Joana Morais update with regards to Scotland yard but after watching Martin Blunts documentary it's clear to see something is changing, although his program was unbiased he dedicated most of it to exposing issues that he has previously not been allowed to expose. Also, I've  just read a blog post on Facebook about Sonia Poultons up and coming documentary, it does seem that the MSM are pushing as hard as they can to get the public to help expose whatever truth is hidden.

The woman in purple, I wondered whether the MSM are trying to get one of the other tapas group to crack by putting it out there about woman in purple, there may be absolutely nothing suspicious about the woman in purple but it does draw attention to a certain member within the group.

Like many people I just do not understand why there has been a cover-up and find it offensive how people who don't believe the McCanns are labeled trolls.

Sadly the dogs evidence for me only points to one conclusion so I hope little Madeleine is at peace.

We are still waiting, since Oct 18 2017, to know what made South Yorkshire Police believe that Ben died in an accident near the farmhouse.

The name of Dino Barkas was only mentioned by the press, and if one reads Kerry Needham's book and watches the videos available on the internet, there is no description of an accident anywhere near the elements of the Needham who were present at the farmhouse.

As said, we are still waiting for an official version from the South Yoirkshire Police of what indeed they think happened.

    6. Ok, thank you for replying, Textusa. I guess that an official version without a written confession has to be excluded.
I read some time ago about a case in the UK that for me is the most terrible thing that can happen : a father got into his car and started to drive backwards. Meanwhile his 2 or 3 years old had gone unnoticed out of their home to say good bye...
Do we often hear of domestic accidents ? No, the media are rather decent on that topic. But when you spend a night in the emergency service of a child hospital, you get another picture of it.

    'MADDIE CLAIMS DESTROYED ME'
Former Madeleine McCann suspect Robert Murat reveals accusation ‘destroyed his life and his family’s’ as he says ‘I was 100 per cent not there’

Maddie vanished while on holiday with her family in Portugal ten years ago today

    By Lauren Fruen
    3rd May 2017, 1:53 pm

A FORMER suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has said the accusations not only destroyed him but his “whole family” too.

Robert Murat was the first person to be made an arguido – a named suspect – in the case after Maddie vanished ten years ago today.

He told the BBC he still cannot face reading about the case on the internet, despite being completely cleared of any involvement.

Robert, a translator, said: “The internet is full of theories – I want to know the truth, not theories.

“I just want to know why that was the case. It didn’t only lead to me being destroyed, it led to my whole family being destroyed, affected by those allegations.

    “It was completely untrue.”

Maddie disappeared from an apartment in Praia da Luz while on holiday with her family.

Mr Murat’s mum Jenny – who lives 100 yards from the Ocean Club complex where the McCanns were staying – claims she saw a car driving the wrong way towards the apartment.

Speaking about the sighting for the first time, Mrs Murat told BBC Breakfast the car was driving the wrong way down a one-way street.

She said: “It was one of the small cars, like the rental cars – the normal, everyday sort of rental cars.

“I saw the driver, I was beside the driver. Both of us looked at each other. I think he had a very British look about him.”

She said she also remembers seeing a mysterious “woman in purple” loitering outside the apartment from which Maddie went missing.

Jenny told how she was struck by the “bizarre behaviour” of the stranger staring at the flat.

Mrs Murat added: “It was the middle of the evening and I saw the woman standing on the corner of the street just watching intently.

"I noticed her there and she kind of looked as if she was trying to hide from me. I do remember she was wearing a plum-coloured top.”

Met Police believe the woman is a prime suspect and may hold the key to Maddie’s fate – but incredibly they are thought to have never quizzed potential witness Mrs Murat.

The Sun Online yesterday exclusively revealed how a top criminal psychologist believes the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann may have been a woman dressed as a nurse to avoid suspicion.

Clinical forensic psychologist Mike Berry said he would “put forward the possibility that the abductor was a female”.

A special church service will be held at the Church of Nossa Senhora da Luz for all missing people, including Madeleine, at 9pm today.

There is also expected to be a public gathering in her home village of Rothley to mark the 10th anniversary of her disappearance.

In previous years, villagers have joined members of the McCann family near the local war memorial on May 3 to support the continued search for her.

    3. You're quite right on this point AnneGuedes, and Textusa is unfortunately wrong. The McCanns didn't even try to clear themselves, or better perhaps, they didn't take the chance to do that, while Robert Murat did his utmost to co-operate with the PJ and did of course answer all questions that he was asked.

Both the Prosecutors' final report regarding the Madeleine case in 2007/8 and the Portuguese Supreme Courts' choice of words in the libel case, when they refer to the former case, show that the McCanns aren't really cleared, or at least not in the same way as Robert Murat. Talking about the Maddie case, there must be made a clear distinction between Robert Murat and the McCanns, regarding suspicion of being implicated in the disappearance of Madeleine. I believe that the PJ, the Prosecutors' office and the Supreme Court in Portugal would agree to what I've just said.

    4. Bjorn,

No, they wouldn't agree at all with you.

Murat, like the McCanns or anyone else can be constituted arguido in the repoened case and that shows that no one, not Murat, not the McCanns and nor anyone else has been cleared in this case by the PJ.

  11. Pedro do Carmo saying they are not suspects, period.
    Realistically
True as Portugal haven't had any opportunity to interview them since they fled Portugal and the case was shelved. He can't describe them as suspects without additional information pointing to them , whatever his personal opinion might be. There has been no confession, no body and no additional forensics.
He knows OG have said they haven't interviewed the Mcs, so he can't describe them as suspects of OG.

I think I understand what you mean. It may have been an accident in that they could have lost their temper and pushed or slapped Madeleine without the intention to seriously hurt her. So had they just reported such an accident and accepted responsibility for it, they would have been charged and sentenced to a year or two in jail. They would have been out within a year and the world would soon have forgiven them.

However, if they are guilty, their real crime, at least in a moral way IMO, is everything they have done all those 10 years in terms of cover up for an accident by accusing others and suing to the left and right, and that's the reason as to why we are still here seeking the truth and I really hope that we don't lose the "appetite" in this respect.

  17. Beautiful poem I hope one day the truth emerges about what really happened to Maddie for 10 years we have been fed lies and fake news from our corrupt media by those who protect the Mccanns. Its a travesty that 11 million has been spent on this case and it continues to be funded by the tax payer when we have so many cutbacks in our NHS and other fundamental services. There are so many unanswered questions from the Tapas group and the Mccanns, their conflicting statements and the parents refusal to answer Portuguese police questions is unbelievable. Sr Amarel was suspicious of Kate and Gerry in the first weeks and the British police should have been more supportive to him then this case could have been solved 10 years ago. The Mccanns spent £600,000 of the fund money (as I read today on AOL ) on paying off their mortgage and as long as they can convince the Met police Madeleine is still alive they are allowed to take money from the fund. Here in UK we have been flooded by news of 'missing madeleine' front page headlines, Panorama programme, we have had one suspect after another each one a supposed 'important line of inquiry etc etc' but nothing comes of any of it but now the weather is getting warmer perhaps the Met want another holiday in Portugal to continue their 'lines of inquiry' no doubt paid for by the tax payer. My advice to the Met who are rapidly turning into the Keystone Cops over this case is to start properly investigating the Tapas 7 and the Mccanns. One positive thing I have noticed is that Mccanns PR team have been unable to stop what they call 'negative' comments appearing and to be honest reading through the comments most people are fed up with the Mccanns and do not believe their version of events. I know I don't.

However, seeing a short extract of the normally decent Richard Bilton door stepping that poor man, I suppose shouldn't be surprised by Hairy getting an airing.
I also read on twitter that the fund was described as a charity.
That must breach some broadcasting regulations as kind- hearted people may contribute because Panorama has endorsed the fighting fund as a charity.
I don't know if I have the will to watch it now.

Theresa May 'didn't tell truth' about Madeleine McCann report while under oath

    Nick Reilly
    Yahoo News UK4 May 2017

Prime Minister Theresa May has been accused of failing to tell the truth about the government’s decision to launch an independent review into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

The sensational claims were made in a special edition of Panorama which was broadcast last night to mark the tenth anniversary of the three-year-old’s disappearance in Praia Da Luz, Portugal.

The documentary claims that the government decided to launch a ‘independent, transparent and comprehensive review of all information’ after being pressured by an open letter published on the front page of The Sun in 2011.

But Theresa May is later seen to seemingly contradict the claims under oath at the Leveson Inquiry, and instead states that the government had been considering a fresh review before the paper published the letter.

She is heard to say: ‘I felt the work we were doing to look at this review had been going on for some time.

‘It was coming to fruition around this time anyway and obviously the issue was a matter of public concern.’

Despite Mrs May’s claims, former Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre chief executive Jim Gamble says that there were no plans for a review only six months previously.

He said: ‘Well I know whenever I spoke to her in the late summer of 2010 that it wasn’t on the agenda because I had presented the report to them. I know she hadn’t reflected, or read the review at that time.’

Madeleine went missing as she slept in a holiday apartment in May 2007 while her parents dined nearby with friends. Despite a mammoth police investigation and widespread publicity, she has never been found.

When contacted by Yahoo News, Downing Street refused to comment further than Mrs May’s comments to the Leveson Inquiry.

You would think gambles comments were intended to goad her into a response and she is well aware that the response she does give will be sufficient to stop the onslaught. I for one am still confident of a positive outcome if it was decided on a whitewash we would be seeing a stage of letting sleeping dogs lie not waking them to persuade the public that they don't actually bark right

Fellow guests at the holiday complex in Praia da Luz have spoken about the immediate aftermath of the three-year old’s disappearance, 10 years after she went missing from her family’s holiday apartment.

Paul and Susan Moyes were staying two floors above the McCanns at the Ocean Club resort in the Algarve, Portugal.

Paul, 68, told The Sun: “The McCanns were in bits, he was crying on the shoulder of a friend. She was screaming ‘the f***ing b******s have taken her’. There was no doubt about the emotion that night.”

The Cheshire couple had spent the evening on their balcony – which overlooked the tapas bar where the McCanns and their friends were dining – before going to bed at around 10pm.

They were woken at about 11.30pm by a friend of the McCanns banging on their door to tell them Maddie had been abducted.

Paul says the friend asked them to contact to media in the hope that the publicity would help find the little girl.

After joining the search for several hours, the couple returned to their apartment at about 4am, and came face to face with Gerry and Kate, who was “wailing and crying”.

Paul told The Sun: “We didn’t see a soul in the original timeline of 9pm to 9.30pm.

“My take on it, as I have said a million times, especially to the Met, I don’t know what happened.

“I do feel there is information that the public at large doesn’t know. My wife is of a different opinion and feels it was an abduction.”

  23. I just wonder if this current barrage of 'slightly' sceptical reports about the McCanns, is just to get in the public domain that the Scotland Yard investigation never suspected the parents. Could this be a clever ploy for them to wrap up Grange? To start again and do the job properly will involve many more £millions and I don't think the British public would stomach that. Just a thought.

But from 4th of May 2007 how many people lost their shame ? Not for being swingers but for being corrupted politics , consul, police, journalists, reporters, celebrities, establishment, parents who mak(d)e money with the dead of their child, parents who drugged their little girl to be carried in the night.
This word : "SHAME" means nothing for them. Even less the feeling of shame. Shame on you Mccanns and all accomplices during these 10 years. Honor, pride, dignity to Senior Amaral.

    2. More importantly, the Moyes appartment overlooks the street connecting the appartments to the reception building which gives access to the pool and the tapas bar. It also overlooks the patio entrance to 5a and the alleyway giving access to the patio entrances of the other appartments. So the couple on that balcony must have seen and heard the comings and goings of Jeremy pushing his baby in a buggy, Gerry, Matthew, Russell, Kate and especially Jane who says she was shuffling up and down that street wearing flip-flops. Has that couple ever been asked to confirm the Tapas 9 movements in their timelines ? Here is a radio interview worth listening to :

Jerry 9.10 - 9.15 in tv room + all well. ? did he check

I believe this means that one of the appartment rooms was being used as a TV room for some of the kids, but not Madeleine. So the writer indicates that Jerry (Gerry) went to that TV room between 9.10 and 9.15 but queries if he afterwards checked Madeleine in 5a.

    Very Pertinent Question

“EXCLUSIVE: WHO WAS THE WOMAN OUTSIDE MADDIE'S FLAT?
    Sunday May 10, 2009
    By James Murray

A WOMAN was seen acting suspiciously outside Kate and Gerry McCann’s apartment just an hour before their daughter Madeleine was abducted.

The slim, Portuguese-looking woman in a plum-coloured top and white skirt with long, dark, swept-back hair acted furtively when she was spotted at 8pm on May 3 in 2007 near the Mark Warner Ocean Club complex.

She was standing under a streetlight at a crossroads only 40 feet from where Madeleine was sleeping with her brother Sean and his twin sister Amelie.

Investigators are being urged to find her to see if she was in any way connected to a pockmarked prowler seen several times outside the apartment in the day leading up to the kidnap.

Details of the mystery woman have only just become known after a Sunday Express investigation into the baffling case was alerted by an elderly British woman who has lived in Praia da Luz on Portugal’s Algarve for more than 30 years.

Speaking from her villa near the Ocean Club, the woman, who has asked not to be named, recalled: “On that night I went to the supermarket at the bottom of the road just before it closed at 8pm.

“As I drove past the entrance to the Ocean Club I saw a woman standing opposite Apartment 5A the McCanns were staying in.

“Even at that time of night the streets were deserted, so I was surprised to see someone there. I remember thinking it was unusual because it is just not the sort of place you would hang around.

“As I drove up to the junction she stepped around to the other side of the street lamp as though she didn’t want me to look at her. She was not carrying a bag or a mobile phone. I thought she might have been waiting for a lift but no car came along while I was there.

“I turned right and could see quite clearly she was looking at Apartment 5A.

“As I approached another junction a small, brown car, with just one English-looking man in it swung round and nearly hit mine.”

When she heard that Madeleine had vanished she asked a relative to inform the police about her sightings.

More than 30 people have so far phoned in about the artist’s impression shown on a Channel 4 documentary last Thursday of a scar-faced man seen loitering outside the McCanns’ apartment”

Does anyone know, by any chance, of “an elderly British woman who has lived in Praia da Luz for more than 30 years", and “speaking from her villa near the Ocean Club” says that she drives “to the supermarket at the bottom of the road” and has “asked a relative to inform the police" about a "man seen loitering outside the McCann´'s apartment"?

Hmmm... an elderly ex-Pat, living in PdL/Lagos for more than 30 years that drives down to the supermarket down the street and has a relative that has spoken to the police… I bet you’re thinking of Mrs Fenn aren’t you?

Don’t be silly! Mrs Fenn lived in an apartment, the G5 right above the 5A, and not in a villa, right?

Besides that, the relative that spoke to the police wasn’t asked to do so. She did it after contacting other relatives in the UK, remember? And she hardly described the man she saw as a "pockmarked prowler” / "scar-faced man" but rather to be a blonde one, albeit the incomprehensible insistence on the part of Leics Police to have her say that she had seen him with glasses when she hadn't, remember?

No, it just can’t be Mrs Fenn. Why? Well, first and foremost I just can’t see any reason for her to do something like that. Can you?

But sure seems to have been an unusual concentration of elderly ex-Pat ladies, that live in PdL/Lagos for more than 30 years and that drive down to the supermarket down the street and that have relatives speaking to the police about Maddie… isn't there? One very special little town, isn't it?

    MADDIE MYSTERY WOMAN
Madeleine McCann cops ‘hunting mysterious woman in purple seen loitering near Portuguese apartment just TWO hours before three-year-old went missing’

Brit gran claims the woman was just staring at the building where Maddie was sleeping

A MYSTERIOUS “woman in purple” is the prime suspect British cops are thought to be searching for in connection with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

A British gran told how she remembers seeing the female loitering outside the very apartment from which Maddie was snatched just TWO HOURS before the child’s distraught mum Kate discovered she was missing in 2007.

Jenny Murat, who lives just 100 yards away from the now infamous apartment 5a of the Ocean Club complex, since renamed the Garden Club, told how she was struck by the “bizarre behaviour” of the stranger staring at the flat.

She told how she had driven to get some shopping when she was on her way home at around 8pm and saw a woman standing by a lamppost.

Mrs Murat added: “It was the middle of the evening and I saw the woman standing on the corner of the street just watching intently.

“I don’t know who she was but she caught my eye because she was dressed in purple-plum clothes.

“It struck me as strange because it’s so unusual for anyone, particularly a woman, to be standing alone on the street in our resort, just watching a building.

“The next morning we heard that a little girl had gone missing and I later told police about the woman I’d seen right outside.

“It was unusual to see a woman standing alone. I didn’t recognise her and don’t have a clue who she is but is seems a bit suspicious.

“If she is important to the policy inquiry I hope they find her wherever she may be.”

The woman in purple, whose name is being withheld by police, has become the latest focus of Scotland Yard’s high profile operation to find the girl’s kidnapper.

Mrs Murat added: “What happened that night to Madeleine was most awful and now ten years on we need answers.”

Met Police believe the woman is a prime suspect and may hold the key to Maddie’s fate – but incredibly they are thought to have never quizzed potential witness Mrs Murat.

But they did talk to Brit holidaymaker Jeremy Wilkins, a tennis playing holiday pal of Maddie’s dad, who had also spotted a woman lurking in the area.

It is understood from sources close to the investigation that the woman had a connection to a worker at the resort where the McCanns were staying.

A police insider yesterday said they were ready to “move in” and arrest the woman, who is not currently living in Portugal, in the latest “hugely significant line of inquiry.”

The source said: “Detectives have scoured Europe looking for this woman who is thought to hold the key to solving the entire case.

"They want to know exactly where she was on the night Madeleine was taken from the apartment.

"After months of tireless police work they will soon be in a position to move in and finally get some answers after a decade of dead ends.”

Metropolitan Police said it would not comment on active investigations.

As Maddie’s parents medical worker Kate, 49, and eminent heart doctor Gerry, 48, face the “unwanted” decade anniversary of their daughter’s kidnap, Mrs Murat said: “Those poor parents need to know what happened.”

Pensioner Mrs Murat, 79, told how the Maddie case had worn her and fellow locals down.

She said: “It’s been non-stop for 10 years and some locals have become very fed up with it.

"It’s not helped our lovely resort in respect of tourism but slowly people are coming back to visit in bigger numbers than ever.”

Mrs Murat said her heart went out to Maddie’s parents, saying: “It’s never ending for them and they must need some answers.

"All people want is for there to be a happy ending for that family. I hope after all this time there can be a resolution.”

Her son Robert Murat, who at the time was living in the family home Casa Liliana, had helped police translate in witness interviews only to become an “arguido”, an official suspect, in Maddie’s disappearance himself. He was later cleared of any wrongdoing.

Businessman Robert, 42, who grew up in Devon, lives in Lagos, a neighbouring resort to Luz.

In a rare media interview to mark the sixth anniversary of Maddie’s disappearance in May 2013, he said of the Met Police inquiry: “They need to start from the beginning.”

He said: “I am available to help on the proper legal basis. I think everybody who was around at that time, holidaymakers and people at the Ocean Club, should be interviewed again.

"The timeline needs to be made crystal clear because there is still so much confusion, such a mess.

“But you cannot lose sight of the fact that a child was taken and we need to know what happened to her. I believe it will come out one day.”

    MADDIE CAR MYSTERY
Madeleine McCann witness ‘saw car driving wrong way down one-way street towards apartment where tot was sleeping before seeing mystery woman in purple waiting outside’

Jenny Murat, who lives just 100 yards away from the now infamous apartment, has spoken on the tenth anniversary of Maddie's disappearance

A BRITISH gran claims she saw a car driving the wrong way towards the apartment Madeleine McCann disappeared from ten years ago.

Jenny Murat, who lives 100 yards from the Ocean Club complex where the McCanns were staying, said the vehicle looked like a rental motor driven by a “British looking man”.

Today marks ten years to the day since Maddie disappeared from Praia da Luz while on holiday with her family.

Mrs Murat's son Robert, a translator, was the first person to be made an arguido - a named suspect - in the case.

He told the BBC he still cannot face reading about the case on the internet, despite being completely cleared of any involvement.

He said: "The internet is full of theories - I want to know the truth, not theories.

"I just want to know why that was the case. It didn't only lead to me being destroyed, it led to my whole family being destroyed, affected by those allegations.

    "It was completely untrue."

    1. I don't think its in a different context. A lot of people were saying that the use of the word abduction in the remit of the review and subsequent investigation meant that SY were accepting the parents version of events. What SY were doing was telling us that the remit of abduction could apply to abduction by someone she knew just as much as it applied to stranger abduction. Since there has never been any suggestion by any side that she was abducted alive by someone she knew, I believe that he was saying the remit could refer to:
      1. Stranger Abduction (alive)
      2. Stranger Abduction (dead)
      3. Known Abduction (dead)
He wiped out the burglary gone wrong theory which pretty much rules out option 2. So in answer to your question "Is removing a dead child as opposed to a live child still called abduction?" I think SY consider it is.

    2. A "child's abduction" clearly implies that the child can oppose some kind of resistance, even drugged, even in a coma a child's muscles still react.
If you insist in using the word "abduction" for a dead body, you don't speak of abduction of a child, but of abduction of a child's body.

The possibility of M being dead is being considered and he uses the word abduction.
The context in which he uses that word is in whether M left the apartment by her own decision or not and not whether she was alive or dead.

Everybody who follows the Madeleine case knows that what has been discussed is if there was an abduction, or if the parents were involved and also if Madeleine died in the apartment. Rowley, however, avoids to dwell on such complicated things, but just concludes in his latest interview, that she must have been abducted, because she was much too young to just walk off and start a life of her own. Either he has a peculiar sense of humor or he's just an idiot.

  42. Abduction - definition:Oxford dictionaries
1The action of forcibly taking someone away against their will.

    Cambridge dictionary
abduct:to force someone to go somewhere with you, often using threats or violence:

1.1 (in legal use) the illegal removal of a child from its parents or guardians.

I have been having a look at the various definitions and use of the word abducted. I think 'abducted' tends to imply that the 'abducted person' is alive and taken forcibly against their will. However, I can find nothing in terms of documented definitions that backs that up. I dont think we should read too much into it. Rowley hadn't been swatting up the meanings of abduction - I think he just wished to imply the body (live or dead) had been removed.

A decade on, UK police say they may never solve Madeleine McCann case

    By Michael Holden | LONDON

Almost a decade after three-year-old Madeleine McCann vanished, London police said they were still following critical lines of inquiry but might never solve the case.

McCann disappeared from her bedroom on May 3, 2007 during a family holiday in Portugal, while her parents were dining with friends at a nearby restaurant in the resort of Praia da Luz.

Despite a massive international search and media coverage which prompted reported sightings from across the globe, her fate remains a mystery.
"Sadly investigations can never be 100 percent successful," said London Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley. He said police had no definitive evidence as to whether Madeleine was alive or dead.

"We will do everything we can do reasonably to find an answer as to what's happened to Madeleine. I so wish I could say that we'll definitely solve it. But a small number of cases sadly don't get solved."

Her parents, Kate and Gerry, said the 10-year anniversary was a "a horrible marker of time, stolen time".

"The two themes that seem most appropriate to me as we reach this ten year mark are perseverance and gratitude: We will go on, try our hardest, never give up and make the best of the life we have," Kate wrote on their Find Madeleine Facebook web page.
FILE PHOTO - A poster of missing British girl Madeleine McCann is displayed on the church door of Praia da Luz beach resort in the southern Portuguese province of Algarve August 7, 2007.
In the 10 years since McCann vanished, the media has suggested a host of explanations for her disappearance, ranging from a burglary gone wrong to abduction by slave traders.

Madeleine's parents were named as official suspects by Portuguese police four months after the disappearance but in 2008 were cleared. Portugal's public prosecutor later dropped the case, citing a lack of evidence.

"There's no reason whatsoever to reopen that," Rowley said.

The McCanns and friends who were with them on the night Madeleine went missing later won large payouts from newspapers over stories that they were involved. Another Briton was awarded 600,000 pounds in damages over false allegations he had abducted the girl.

"We are bracing ourselves for the next couple of weeks," the McCanns said. "It's likely to be stressful and painful and more so given the rehashing of old 'stories', misinformation, half-truths and downright lies which will be doing the rounds in the newspapers, social media and 'special edition' TV programs."

The Portuguese closed their inquiry in 2008. London police launched a review of the case in 2011 after the McCanns wrote to then British Prime Minister David Cameron.
The subsequent investigation examined 600 individuals and threw up new leads, prompting Portuguese prosecutors to order the case re-opened in 2013.

Following interviews and a search of wasteland near Praia da Luz, four suspects were cleared of any involvement.

London police have spent 11 million pounds on their investigation and last month were given another 85,000 pounds for four detectives to continue for a further six months.

"Where we are today is with a much smaller team focused on a small number of remaining critical lines of inquiry that we think are significant," Rowley said.

"If we didn't think they were significant, we wouldn't be carrying on."

  44. Is it my imagination or have things suddenly gone "quiet" ? Might it be that the MSM are holding their breath for the real news???

    ReplyDelete
  45. They "will do everything they can do reasonably", what if they did everything they can do forgetting the "reasonably" ?
Just a little effort, Mr Rowley, to be at the level of Mr Whicher, an inspirer of Sherlock Holmes !

  46. "They've taken her" I believe these were KM's first words when she raised the alarm. Using the word 'they' implies to me prior knowledge of person/persons and/or risk, or pre-planned scenario designed to promote the abduction. I'm a father and a grandfather and if my son or grand daughter had gone missing those words would not be the first I uttered.

  50. Interesting comments on Twitter from Colin Sutton, ex-London DCI, re McCann case. https://twitter.com/colinsutton/with_replies
One of his Tweets: 1- I hoped Grange was doing other work in the background; 2- When I decided to speak it took a while to find an MSM outlet who would listen.

  51. Just got round to watching the BBC panarama program. I wouldn't have the stomach to watch it again but on at least 5 different occasions it was stated without reservation that the McCanns were innocent. Now you would think a talented and professional policeman would take you through the evidence step by step, giving you the benefit of their years of experience to explain exactly why he came to that decision but no on one occasion when RB questioned the ex SY guy on why he thought that his reply was along the lines of ......cause I just don't ........it reminds me of my 5 year old on a rather naughty day. Wasn't RB evidence against the portuguise receptionist just so compelling .......I mean the PJ had a ? After his name .......what more evidence did they need arrest the man for god sake..........

  52. A very big thank you to Anne Guedes for such a hard work with the Sky News documentary of May 3, this year, by transcribing it as well as adding her notes - pointing out the errors:

    1. "I do though think that a point worthy of reinforcing is that a proper, conclusive and reasoned elimination or implication of Kate and Gerry McCann would have been in everyone's interest, most of all theirs. That would have been my first objective had I been leading Operation Grange and so that is the biggest issue I have with how that investigation proceeded. To eliminate or implicate those closest to the child in this type of case is not only the documented best investigative practice but is common sense. Had Grange done this then everything would be a lot clearer. I have no idea why this was not done but I am satisfied on what has been said by the Met and what is available that it was not."

  54. It seems someone is profiting off Mr Amaral’s work by selling his book in digital form on E-Bay.

We very much doubt that ‘herbalsharry2015’ has anything to do with Mr Amaral:

We urge people do be on the lookout for schemes like these.

  55. Hi Textusa

Interesting non biased interview on Irish radio this morning, RTE Radio 1, with a gentlemen who heads up an organised and structured swinging party service. Thought to bring to your attention in regard to the cultural shifts that are changing awareness of numbers swinging, perhaps one day aiding a full revelation. Show is Ryan Tubridy, usually a podcast.

    Thanks

    1. I agree to a point, but wouldn't it be advantageous to have the word spread. GA isn't going to miss £3.99. Same for Peter Macs book, it's freely available, but only to the people who are interested and know where to look. MSM are doing a good job of indoctrinating only one side of the 'story' because they have the majority of the populous attention span, maybe the 'populous' need an alernative.

People can read Anna Esse translation online for free.

She hasn't made any profit from selling this.

And as soon as the book is available, those who used her translation should commit to buying it.

We have the book for our own reference.

Just looked at Panorama again. Did Op Grange pre-eliminate McCanns simply because they weren't in 5A when the disappearance was reported?
