Rua Segura - April 9/10/11 2019

One could say that CMTV in Portugal has, paraphrasing Joe Moura, a pattern, a habit for its nightly programming.

This, shall we call it, routine starts with a panel of sport-commentators which may vary in the name of the show but basically it’s the always the same formula: one or 2 commentators to the right of the host, another one or 2 to his left and debate endlessly about the 3 major football clubs of the country: Benfica, Porto and Sporting.

This is followed by a program with a somewhat similar format about criminal topics. This program is called  ‘Rua Segura’.

The difference between this one and the sports panel – besides the commentators having obviously different expertise, Carlos Anjos, Paulo Sargento, Rui Pereira and Moita Flores are often present – is that the debates are about reports prepared and shown by the program.

There are reports shown on the program that are not debated, very much like in any news program.

‘Rua Segura’ can then be classified as a criminal news program with extended debates on certain topics.

The readers of the blog and those familiar with the CMTV “news” on the case will recognise the program. It’s in this format that Mr Amaral has appeared in this network. Then it has been called a “CMTV Special”, where various reports on Maddie are shown and then he and other commentators debate them.

After ‘Rua Segura’, CMTV follows it up with a short sport news program. Basically, every night it’s this routine: sport, crime (‘Rua Segura’) and sport. That’s how CMTV captures its audience and maintains its high ratings.

We are making this post because last Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, CMTV decided to give the Maddie case some attention.

We will transcribe in this post what was said in all 3 shows.

We are fully aware of some imprecision (for example, saying that Operation Grange started in 2010, that cadaver odour was signalled in the kid’s bedroom, that the dogs came only after the parents had left Portugal and that Kate wrote her book recently to list the most glaring) but the reader will see that the inaccuracies are more due to the erosion of time than due to the intent to mislead.

Also the reader will see that commentators have different opinions from the blog. Moita Flores appears to be certain of negligence and Mr Amaral raises the possibility that Maddie may also have been sedated.

But the common thread is how the Portuguese perceive the case, otherwise CMTV would not have taken so clearly the slant favouring the McCann’s guilt.

Also to be noted is the extensive use of images from the videos of the dogs and the repeated use of the word ‘cadaver’

It shows clearly that Netflix did not sway in any way the Portuguese public opinion on the case.

As always, we will also publish the Portuguese transcriptions so that Portuguese speakers can correct our translation in case they feel they should. Many of the reports are repeated but we have transcribed them as they appeared daily.

On Tuesday, the program aired 2 reports followed by a debate. Present Moita Flores, Rosa Amaral (a psychologist) and Rui Pereira.

The first report was about Mark Perlin and his offer to SY which had obtained no response and the second was about how Operation Grange has wasted £13 million and on the verge of wasting more without producing a single suspect even though they said they were following new leads last time they requested funding.

On Wednesday, the program aired 4 reports on the McCanns, none were debated. The first report was a repeat of the second one of the previous day about how Operation Grange has wasted £13 million.

The second was about the alleged deal that Kate accuses the Portuguese police of having proposed. CMTV calls it an “indecent proposal”. As the reader will see, the PJ offered her nothing as even Kate recognises that it was a lawyer who allegedly spoke to her about it, something that is not even allowed in Portugal.

The third was about the McCanns delving into their marriage and sex life.

The fourth, and the longest of the reports, was about the specifics of the case. To be highlighted was  how much the dogs were shown in this segment. Mr Amaral also spoke of the Smith sighting and why he thinks the children were sedated that night.

The fifth and last of the day was a repeat of the first one aired Tuesday about Mark Perlin’s offer.

On Thursday, it was again Mark Perlin’s offer - meaning it was aired 3 times in 3 days - but on this day with Colin Sutton’s “participation” in it but without naming him.

Here are the transcripts (please note that in one of them we used caps when Moita Flores says the word “POLITICAL” and we did this because he does raise his voice when saying it):

- On Tuesday, April 9:

Magali Pinto: An American researcher offered his laboratory to re-examine the DNA samples from the Madeleine case that were considered inconclusive. The British police has ignored this offer that was free.

Voice over (VO): The police investigating the Maddie case in the UK have ignored an offer from US forensic experts to re-examine DNA samples that were considered scant, too complex and inconclusive, insufficient to draw conclusions. Mark Perlin reports that the advanced techniques of his lab in the US can give results that were not possible 12 years ago. Scotland Yard has ignored the free offer to reanalyse inconclusive DNA samples in the hope of solving the Maddie mystery. This new expert says that the new techniques can bring surprising results. The evidence was collected, we remind, in the apartment in the Algarve and in the car rented by the McCann family after the police having detected a cadaver odour. The Portuguese police sent these vestiges to be analysed in a forensic laboratory in Birmingham, UK. At the time the experts said that some components of DNA corresponded to Maddie but that the samples were too complex for a meaningful interpretation. This US expert believes that the methods they used at the time are now outdated, the expert says that his laboratory, which even helped identify 9/11 victims, can unblock what the British laboratory could not. The offer was made last year but to date has not obtained a response.

MP: The English police have not yet received the more than 300 thousand euros that it has asked, in fact, to investigate the disappearance of Maddie. Altogether, 13 million have already been spent, although no clue or suspect has emerged.

Voice over (VO): The British detectives from Operation Grange who investigate the case of the disappearance of Maddie McCann, are determined to continue working even though having already spent more than 13 million euros during several years and never having presented suspects. Scotland Yard has again asked for money to continue the search for Madeleine McCann, who disappeared in Praia da Luz in Lagos, Algarve, almost 12 years ago. The authorities have requested about 340 thousand euros, amount requested from the Home Office. We recall that at the end of 2018, the British defense (?) contributed with more than 150,000 pounds, 164,000 euros in Portugal, to continue the investigations, after the English press reported that the authorities were investigating 2 new leads. If there is this new funding, the investigation will have accumulated more than 13 million euros since 2010, but the truth is that this money has not yet been unblocked. Madeleine McCann disappeared on the night of May 3, 2007, in Lagos, at the age of four. Since then the case has been one with the most media in the world.

MP: Francisco, to... the English police to ignore an offer that above all is free, it does not want those samples that were sent from Portugal and that were collected both in the apartment and in the boot of the car rented by the McCann couple, it does not want to send these samples because it doesn’t even want to know the results?

Moita Flores (MF): As your report says, 13 million pounds later, the police the only thing that interests them is that family is not touched. All that the English police have done is in the direction distancing any hypothesis of involving that family and friends in this case, and it is already humiliating with so many children who have already disappeared in England, they asking for so much money to investigate this case, without doing the only diligence that could open and shed some light and which costs a few thousand pounds. As I have said here many times, it’s the reconstitution according to the statements they gave in court. All the friends. Because of the 8 friends, there are certainly 4 who are lying, but lying blatantly, and the reconstitution would solve the problem of who lied and why they were lying. Usually when one lies about a child it is because one is compromised with her death. This is the history, when one lies in court, when one is dealing with a case such as this. And what happens is that after all these years, after 13 million pounds ... something that would cost 10,000 or 20,000 pounds, it isn’t done, and it will never be done because the objective at the moment, POLITICAL and it was from the night of disappearance, POLITICAL and police objective was to cover-up this case. This money was not spent to discover children who disappeared, others, because they have already disappeared in England a few hundred, it was, it was used to cover-up this case.

MP: In one minute, Dr. Rosa, Madeleine McCann's mother had the need to write a book in which she made some revelations ... how do you interpret this need to write a book about her daughter and about her disappearance 12 years after?

Rosa Amaral (psychologist) (RA): A need like this can be interpreted as mourning process. It is a complex process, when it is the mourning of a child, it is an unfinished process that will be in a circular way, going on through the passage of time and often the parents who survived to facilitate the process of mourning may adopt 'n' strategies. There are parents who found associations, there are parents who fundraise to create financing for similar situations, in this case one could think that she decided to write a book as a cathartic process, a process of herself trying to keep the memory of her daughter alive, of exposing yourself, of releasing the entire grieving process of mourning, believing ...

MF:... and of guilt.

RA: ... believing that she would be doing it in this sense. Taking the theory that was here exposed previously it could be ...

MF: No ... no, Dr, there really has to be a complex of guilt because they abandoned the children.

MP: Of course.

RA: Yes.

MF: If they had not abandoned the children none of this would have happened. They committed a crime, all of them, a crime of abandonment of a minor.

RA: Yes.

MF: And she knows that she committed that crime ... so Portugal was very merciful and complacent with this crime ...

MP: Professor, I have few seconds to give you until the end of the program, however, telling you that the police are still waiting for the 300 thousand euros that they asked to continue the investigation, does it make sense to ask for this money?

Rui Pereira: No. I think that pouring money on this investigation is irrelevant. What makes sense is to think, to really think before acting. I agree with the idea how the reconstitution is important, although it was more important in the past, it is already late, and the essential mistake, I have also said from the beginning, was not to constitute on the first moment the parents as arguidos of the crime of exposure to abandonment.

MP: Thank you to the 3 of you for your presence in the program and this is the end of ‘Rua Segura’.

- On Wednesday, April 10:

Magali Pinto (MP): ... we move on with the program, the English police have not yet received the more than 300 thousand euros that it has asked for, in fact, to investigate the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. Altogether, 13 million has already been spent, although no clue or suspect has emerged.

Voice over (VO): The British detectives from Operation Grange who investigate the case of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, are determined to continue working even though having already spent more than 13 million euros during several years and never having presented suspects. MP: Kate McCann wrote a book where she reveals that she received an indecent proposal from the police. Says Madeleine McCann's mother that if she admitted to having killed her daughter and hidden her body, her husband could remain free.

VO: Kate McCann claims that she had an indecent proposal from the Portuguese police who proposed that if Kate admitted that she had killed Maddie, her husband Gerry could remain free. Kate says that a lawyer made the offensive proposal, a few months after Madeleine disappeared, revelations that are part of Kate’s book with the name "madeleine". Kate McCann said she was offered an agreement by the Portuguese police who told her that husband would remain free if she admitted that she had killed her daughter. What Kate considers to be an offensive gesture was the proposal that she would only be jailed for two years if she confessed that she had caused her daughter's death and hid her body. According to the newspaper, the Sun, after Maddie disappeared a lawyer who helped the McCann couple, told Kate that if she accepted the agreement, it would be much better than both ending up accused of homicide. She was also told that if she did not accept, she and her husband could go to prison. The lawyer also would have said that if Kate were to take the blame, Gerry would remain free and could return to work in the UK and take care of the twins. Kate reveals in the book "madeleine”, that when he learned, her husband's reaction was to fall to his knees, crying and sobbing. Kate was furious and told the lawyer not only she would not admit a lie, also told the lawyer that the two were completely innocent. He said that if she followed the advice, the searches for Madeleine would end.

MP: The next May 3 will be 12 years that Madeleine disappeared.

VO: Almost 12 years after the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in Praia da Luz in the Algarve, a profile of Maddie's parents is done, and to the question of who Madeleine McCann's parents are, the answer is this: Kate and Gerry are both Catholics who met in Glasgow in 1993, Kate became a GP after studying medicine at the University of Dundee, and Gerry a cardiologist since 2005. They were married in 1998, Maddie was born in 2003. They also have 2 twins who were born in 2005. They were married for 9 years when Madeleine disappeared. Shortly after Maddie disappeared, Kate said that the marriage was almost ended, with Kate closing in on herself. She stopped reading, to listen to music, and even of having sex with her husband, Gerry. The couple were overcome by fears that a paedophile had taken their daughter Maddie. Writing about this in her biography, Kate says that she tortured herself with that idea and with those images, and because of that it isn’t surprising in her opinion, that even sex caused her some disgust. Kate also says that she was concerned with her and Gerry, says that she was concerned that the couple would not be able to put their sexual life in the right path and that the relationship would end. Kate counted on the understanding, she says, of her husband and on the strength and endurance of their marriage, made the marriage last. They are still together up to today.

MP: And let us now recap some of the essential points of the investigation and the questions put to Madeleine McCann's parents.

VO: One of the key moments in the investigation into Madeleine McCann's disappearance happened at a time when the child's parents had left our country at the end of the summer of 2007. It was only then that the English police made available two dogs that had already been used to clarify various crimes abroad. The animals, capable of smelling the odour of death, signalled the presence of a cadaver in 3 locations, in the room where the child slept until May 3 inside the Ocean Club apartment in Praia da Luz, in the garden of the resort and inside the boot of the car used by the McCann couple a few days after the disappearance of the child, namely for a trip to Huelva, Spain, following another false sighting of Maddie. This lead provided by Scotland Yard's special dogs ended up not being valued later in the investigation, even because the McCanns did not return to Portugal while the process was open. As were ignored the biological fluids also found in the living room of the apartment and that pointed to the hypothesis of the body being frozen. In the boot of the car were also found hairs that were sent to England. The genetic comparison was not conclusive but Gonçalo Amaral admits that the results pointed to the possibility of the body having been transported in the rented car after the disappearance. In September 2007 Madeleine's parents returned to England claiming they wanted peace, however, clues continued to reach the PJ.

Unidentified reporter (UR): ... because a family appears that ends up proving itself fundamental ...

Gonçalo Amaral (GA): ... fundamental to the investigation ...

UR: ... to the investigation.

GA: Exactly, it is a family with various elements, an Irish family, with the surname Smith, that that night they all had dinner in this restaurant down here, that is the Delfin [sic], leave the restaurant... and when they go up, when they come walking, they all come by here, they cross with an individual who they describe, who brings, in a hurried pace, and on that side of the walk, a blonde child, the description of the missing child, on his arms with the head leaning here. They cannot see the facial features of this child, but describe her as being about 3 years old, as who is saying it is a grandfather and has, has grandchildren of that age too. So, this is the first event, and they say that, at this point Robert Murat was suspected of having something to do with the case, and that gentleman says "I know Robert Murat and that individual is not Robert Murat”. Later, when the parents of the child had returned to England, we are talking about September, mid-September, there is an image on TV that shows the couple arriving on the runway, getting off the plane, walking on the runway, and this family, this ... this main witness sees, and for him when he sees the missing child's father with one of the twins in his arms, in that position as he had seen here and the way he walked, says "I'm seeing the person I crossed with that night of May 3 in Praia da Luz”.

VO: In the documentary that addresses all the theses about Maddie's disappearance, the parents appear as suspects. This happens as soon as PJ decides to open up its game and say that there was the possibility that the girl was dead. At that time it was also said that the three children were sedated so the parents dined in peace.

[inserted a clip from the CMTV 10th anniversary documentary]

GA: They were asleep, they continued to sleep up to... until the police arrived, everyone, a lot of noise inside the house, from witnesses, from Ocean Club staff and still sleeping they were carried to the apartment, to another apartment that they were later removed to, continuing to sleep, when later it was known that the mother spent all night with her hand checking the nose and mouth to see if they were breathing, something that is also a bit serious ...

UR: ... and that would indicate what?

GA: That would indicate that she knew they could be sedated, so to speak, with something and was afraid that something might happen to them as it possibly may have happened to the missing child.

VO: Another one of the moments that raised the most doubts among those who suspect the involvement of the parents in the disappearance of the child has to do with the day Maddie's mother was questioned all day by the police. At the time Kate refused to answer 48 questions that were put to her by Portimão’s PJ in the questioning that began in the morning and ended at night. Many of the questions suggested that blood, as well as cadaver odour had been found in the apartment where the child slept. One of the questions is clear: if Kate had any responsibility or intervention in the disappearance of her daughter. 48 questions, zero answers.

MP: And an American researcher offered his laboratory to re-examine the DNA samples from the Madeleine case that were considered inconclusive. The British police has ignored this free offer.

- On Thursday, April 11:

Magali Pinto: Let's move on ‘Rua Segura’, British experts are pressuring Scotland Yard to send the DNA samples of the Maddie case to the US. The new analysis could bring a turnaround to the case.

Voice over: The police investigating the Maddie case in the UK have ignored an offer from US forensic experts to re-examine DNA samples that were considered scant, too complex and inconclusive, insufficient to draw conclusions. British forensic experts and retired police officers are pressuring Scotland Yard to send the samples and do not understand the absence of a response. An example of this is a detective who in his career has solved 30 homicides, he also believes that this offer of new expertise can help solve the mystery of Madeleine McCann. Basically, what British police had to do was to send the 18 DNA samples collected at that time by the Portuguese police and analysed in England to the US, but so far nothing has been done in that direction. We remind that Mark Perlin, a North American forensic expert, reports that the advanced techniques of his lab in the US can give results that were not possible 12 years ago. This new expert says that the new techniques can bring surprising results. The evidence was collected in the apartment in the Algarve and in the car rented by the family after the police having detected a cadaver odour.

MADDIE HOPE
Hero cop says Scotland Yard could be sitting on Madeleine McCann mystery ‘game changer’

Ex-detective Colin Sutton urged British cops to carry out new tests on the complex DNA samples found in the Madeleine McCann case

    By Jenny Awford

    Updated: 11th April 2019, 7:45 am

A TOP detective who snared Levi Bellfield has claimed that Scotland Yard could be sitting on "a real game changer" in the Madeleine McCann mystery.

Colin Sutton urged British cops to carry out new tests on the complex DNA samples found in the case that were ruled "inconclusive” in 2007.

The former detective, who solved more than 30 murders during his career at Scotland Yard, said advanced new testing methods could crack the case.

DNA samples were taken from swabs lifted from the McCann family's holiday flat and hire car after sniffer dogs allegedly detected the "scent of death".

Leading forensics expert Dr Mark Perlin offered to re-test the "inconclusive" DNA samples – but detectives snubbed his offer to analyse samples for free.

In the latest episode of Nine News' Maddie podcast, Mr Sutton was asked what it would mean if new tests found Madeleine's DNA in the family’s rental car.

He said: "On that basis, that that car was hired by the McCanns three weeks after Madeleine disappeared, then it is a real game changer, isn't it?

“Because there is no way, according to information that we have, that she could have been in that car.

"The big question then is how can her DNA get into that car three weeks after she disappeared?"

    CRUCIAL SWAB

This crucial swab was from the boot of a silver Renault Scenic that Kate and Gerry McCann leased 25 days after Madeleine vanished in Praia da Luz.

It was one of 18 complex DNA samples, which are potentially loaded with vital clues about Madeleine's disappearance.

Cops reached a dead end when the tests came back inconclusive 12 years ago.

But Dr Perlin reckons new techniques could blow the case wide open and finally reveal what happened to Maddie.

He claims his Pittsburgh lab Cybergenetics, which helped identified 9/11 victims, can routinely unlock the kind of samples the FSS struggled with.

He told Nine's podcast investigation: "If a lab can produce informative data, even if it is complex and mixed, but they can't interpret it then you can have tremendous injustice - of guilty people not being convicted, or innocent people staying in prison.

"What is needed is an objective and accurate interpretation that can scientifically resolve the DNA."

The Met Police said: "The investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann remains ongoing. We are not providing a running commentary."

Kate and Gerry McCann have repeatedly denied any involvement in their daughter's disappearance and were cleared of wrongdoing.

Police believe Madeleine was snatched by a paedophile or a member of a trafficking gang.

Scotland Yard is waiting hear if the Home Office will grant a further £150,000 to continue its £12million search for another 12 months.

“Hello everyone. A big thank you, and a quick request.

The Maddie podcast recently went past 1.25 million downloads. Thank you to all of you who have supported this work. The team behind Maddie are in this to pursue and find answers about what happened to Madeleine. We've been blown away by your support.

A big way you can support the podcast is to go to iTunes, leave a one line review, rate and subscribe (for free of course). Reviewing and subscribing really helps boost us up the iTunes charts.

A higher chart position brings more listeners and more media visibility to the content inside the podcast. We hope increased visibility will put pressure on someone who knows something, and people and organisations who maybe have the power to make a difference or deliver answers.

Thanks again for listening. And thanks for your support. Mark Saunokonoko”

That's right. The FSS McCann reports repeatedly referred to 'cellular material' as a source of DNA which of course they were unable to solve. Dr Perlin told me, in the forensics lab process, a Serology Unit conducts tests to establish what the 'cellular material' is.

Yes, far from pointless. It's why the police were interested in that area and those samples in 2007, and why police should be interested now. The first step is to solve those samples, and find out whose DNA is present. That would inform next steps.

An intruder/offender still at large might be in one or more of the 16 samples. That offender/intruder may be currently on a global DNA database. If Dr Perlin confirms identity of unknown person(s) who left DNA in those samples, it could help investigation. Solve the samples.

A very good reason why the McCanns (and their internet allies) should be pressuring for Mark Perlin’s offer to be accepted!

Even if the supposed offender/intruder is not on some global DNA base, the DNA would be registered and if and when said offender/intruder would cross again with the paths of the law, then when his/her DNA is sampled, it would alerted that his/her DNA was in apartment 5A.

  6. One question to the Frog, if DNA was so easily transferred as she apparently claims it is (according to her, DNA travelled from 5A, to apartment in Block 4, to villa then to Scenic) then what was all that about having to go back to Rothley to get a pillowcase to have a sample of Maddie’s DNA?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think G was said to have returned for a pillowcase in order to have a definite sample from M, untainted by the possibility of DNA from any other family member in 5a. How could he be sure that A had not also deposited a DNA sample on the pillowcase at home?

M’s heel-prick test sample, taken after the birth of every child, seems to have been requested to confirm the DNA on pillowcase was M.
Presumably because the FSS had samples from all other members of the family, they were only able to determine the pillowcase sample could be either A or M, because they needed a sample that proved M was the only person possible?

Please see first entry about pillowcase.
It shows only a female child of Mcs, either A or M.
So this must be when heel prick sample was requested?
It is only mentioned as a ref to a cardboard frame in PJ files.
Lesley Denton goes on to say that profiles of S and A didn’t match pillowcase DNA, so although unstated by her, it means that profile must be M.
Unless there was an assumption they had an undeclared daughter. Highly unlikely but even a remote possibility must be ruled out
I guess the heel prick sample was a better way of being sure the pillowcase sample was M and no other female child of Mcs.

    4. Anonymous 13 Apr 2019, 20:35:00 and we're supposing also 21:22:00,

The point is not what was found in Rothley's pillowcase but more what was not found.

If DNA is so easily transferable, then why wasn't Gerry's DNA on it, as he transported it?

We are back into the debate of the secondary and tertiary contamination of cadaver scent. To the McCann supporters (no matter how loud they shout they're not) these "scientific" things have this particular "plague-effect", they spread real easy.

In this instance, according to those who say it's perfectly reasonable for Maddie's DNA to be in a car she is supposed to have never entered, dead or alive, it means forensics in a crime scene is useless, as any DNA found in it can be explained away because it could have been brought in some third party.

As I have been in Luz twice and one of them in the Tapas area, and possibly someone who has been in 5A since then may also have been where I was in the Tapas area, maybe my DNA can be found in 5A now brought in by that person?

See the ridiculousness of the premise defended by the Frog?

For Textusa13 Apr 2019, 22:43:00 UK police tend to use gloves & evidence bags. Pillowcase was taken to Leicester police & stain analysed for DNA-it never went to Portugal. BTW touch DNA usually degrades quite rapidly, depending on environment, or is cross-contaminated. #mccann
      5:23 PM - 16 Apr 2019

      *****

      Frog,

Didn’t Gerry travel all the way back to Rothley to get said pillowcase? Did he use gloves and evidence bags? (By the way, if you are going to answer yes to this question, please explain how and why would you know such a detail).

If the collection of DNA is so sensitive, why not simply hand over the keys of the house to qualified British forensic police who would then collect the pillowcase?

And we have to ask, if cross-contamination is so easily done, then why have forensics? As then ALL DNA samples are expected to be contaminated one way or another and unless the criminal leaves a sealed vial (certifiably sterilized) with his/her DNA with a label with his/her name and his/her signature testifying that the contents belong solely to him/her at the crime scene, forensics, according to you, is useless.

Did Maddie put the pillow in the pillowcase? If not, then why doesn’t the DNA from the adult who did that, certainly without gloves, appear?

Who says that the DNA collected from the Scenic was touch DNA? Where the DNA is collected is very relevant. If it was collected from a stain, it is not touch DNA.

Finally, interesting to see how with the pillowcase, the DNA degrades rapidly but then DNA “forgets” to have he same properties when it flies from Block 5 to Block 4, from Block 4 to the villa and then from the villa to the Renault. Then, in that very particular instance(s) the DNA does not degrade. Why?

  7. VERY, VERY INTERESTING! From the past:

    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/527877/Madeleine-McCann-police-probe-curtains-for-DNA-clues

Maddie breakthrough: Curtains may hold DNA clue in hunt for Madeleine McCann

DETECTIVES hunting for missing Madeleine McCann believe curtains in the Portuguese holiday flat where she was snatched might provide vital clues.

    By STEWART WHITTINGHAM
    PUBLISHED: 05:26, Mon, Oct 27, 2014

British officers hope that new tests on the fabric will reveal traces of DNA which could identify her kidnapper.

They believe he may have touched them as he took threeyear- old Madeleine from her bed at the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz and climbed out of the window with her.

The curtains have been sealed in an evidence file at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine in the Portuguese city of Coimbra since 2007.

But Scotland Yard has sent an urgent request to Portuguese police asking for their permission to re-examine them. Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood and his team are hoping the fabric will be pre- served enough to contain clues.

There have been significant developments in DNA science since the first investigation was carried out seven years ago.

The UK has developed a large “library” of DNA samples which increases by more than 400,000 profiles every year. Portugal’s Public Ministry will decide whether the material should be handed over.

Scotland Yard, whose detectives from Operation Grange were in Portugal last week, also want to re-examine 30 strands of hair found in the apartment.

They plan to use advanced genetic and biological testing procedures. DNA samples can be extracted from a single human cell left on items that people come into contact with.

The quality of DNA can now be “amplified” using complex chemical processes. Robots are even used to help in the lab.

A Portuguese source said: “The best hope is to pass the sample to officers in Britain.” However Francisco Brizida, president of Portugal’s Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, has warned about raising hopes too much.

He said: “Technology now allows us to go further than years ago.

“But I would not like to be that ambitious and say the secret to unlocking Madeleine’s case lies in our lab.”

Scotland Yard detectives dug for eight days during the summer in the Algarve resort where Kate and Gerry McCann holidayed with their family.

However, there was no new breakthrough.

Interviews with new suspects also failed to produce any new leads. The Operation Grange investigation, which involves 30 Scotland Yard officers, has so far cost £10million.

Having read the document we would say it’s simply a report by the “field-officers” (in the case, the 4th Brigade) which then helped for the final report to be written.

Because this document is not part of the PJ Files it has no legal value. In fact, because it is not included, whatever it says – even though 99.9% is in accordance with the final report – can be argued as not subscribed by Paulo Rebelo, who ultimately was who was responsible for the investigation.

It is then to be taken as the not-official opinion of some (most) of the investigation team. Written as such, it would seem that it contradicts the final report and we want to make it clear it doesn’t, inclusively, some of its passages are in the that final report.

Our opinion is that it has nothing new.

Of what we could read, we detected 2 discrepancies: that the EVRD only signalled the Scenic’s Key FOB (doesn’t mention the door) and that it signalled Maddie’s clothes (evidently meaning Sean’s t-shirt as this alert is not mentioned).

  12. Thank you Textusa/team for not going giddy over these documents in relation to Assange arrest. If anything they affirm the lack of interesting disclosure in the case from such avenues as Wikileaks. Imagine the furore if these documents were reversed, and we were currently reading cables about not trusting the family. And consider then the complete inconsequential result of those cables in hindsight. Reversed, imagine the furore at the idea of British diplomats disbelieving the family. Yet, where is that now? Washed down the drain like so many ephemeral media soap bubbles.

I understand the urge to leap on the next false dawn, but give the morning sky a break.

    2. Our synopsis:

Mark S refers to Dr Perlin’s offer to OG which had no response. The Home Office refused to comment. A letter to Teresa May was referred to the Home Office.

Mark says there are other ways to get the DNA data and he is pursuing it.

He speaks to lawyer David Rudolph (DR) who defended Michael Peterson, convicted in N Carolina in 2003 of murdering his wife. Featured in a Netflix doc. The conviction was overturned in 2011 after a key expert witness, a scientist, had lied about evidence.

DR talks about police corruption and confirmation bias - ignoring facts inconsistent with their beliefs. Taking extra judicial steps to prove a case- the ends justifying means.

When asked about testing DNA, DR says mixed samples, minute quantities and algorithms used for analysis means results are less than reliable but says “What’s the harm of doing the analysis?”, not wanting it done only means one is afraid of results. Being shown to be wrong in the initial theory may be hard to admit.

To us this section seemed to be rather sceptical about Perlin’s methods or any scientist using his methods but please listen and decide for yourself.

DR says it’s hard but not impossible to prove a case without a body, he expresses anger about TV coverage of Peterson case, where a report of bloody footprints cleaned up in the kitchen was totally untrue.

Refers to role of media in controlling the narrative and how on social media, opinions are formed early and confirmation bias kicks in.

G’s interview with Rahni Sadler in 2011 discussed, where she asks” Did you kill your daughter?”. G’s longer reply was edited out and only shown in 2017. Mark S says this shows ability of media to shape a story.

Mark McClish, who works with FBI and does statement analysis says a 1 word NO is a good denial rather than G’s lengthy answer, but that’s when a crime has just occurred. After years have gone by and a person has been publicly accused, they may feel the need to explain if they feel they are suffering persecution and under scrutiny.

Mark S talks about bad blood between U.K. and Portuguese media.

Sonia Poulton interviewed about her 2014 documentary trailer and being told M story is “one story you don’t pursue. After many appearances as commentator in the media, and expecting some funding for her documentary, all her appearances dried up after the trailer was aired, even though she offered no theory, only questioning the abduction theory.

Lack of information from Portuguese police, because of judicial secrecy was unlike the UK, where police provided commentary, including missing persons cases, to the media, meant UK journalists under editorial pressure to get information from Portugal. Portugal had insiders giving information to their media but the UK didn’t (didn’t DL write stories with the Times journalist?).

The story sold papers. The U.K. tabloids attacked Portugal, the nadir being Tony Parsons writing for the Mirror in Oct 2007, with his insulting sardine- munching comments.

Paulo Reis, who had written for the Times in the past says they were co-ordinated and organised attacks, not just an accident or to boost circulation. All followed the same line that the PJ were incompetent and GA was a drunk.

DL speaks of Portuguese journalists having good inside access to PJ whereas the UK journalists had access to the McCanns (here he says something that we know to be untrue: in the first 24 hours there were 100s of journalists. The photos of May 4 show that was not so and Sandra Felgueiras has confirmed it).

That it was like an election campaign with press conferences and McCanns doing walks for the press.

Organised by MarK Warner rep, Alex Woolfall, crisis PR and client of Bell Pottinger, who shut down in 2017. They did reputation laundering for De Klerk in SA and Pistorius. Woolfall advised Mcs how to handle the media.

Later in the podcast, Mark contacts Lord Bell about a comment in Owen Jones book about the Mcs paying BP £500k to keep them in media headlines, but Bell won’t comment and says it’s too long ago.

Leveson Inquiry, G gives evidence about negative stories written in the press. Sonia Poulton says there was initial sympathy as a lot of media people could relate to what Mcs did. Leaving children was apparently seen as acceptable middle -class thing to do. There but for the grace of God... (Sonia is repeating what she said in her documentary which we had read for 11 years that it was an absurd thing to say and that after she said it, we saw no one challenging her on it. Sonia is echoing what we have seen written in the media, by women in particular, who have expressed this view in articles that are BLATANTLY IN SUPPORT of the Mcs but to say it’s acceptable to the middle class or any parents in UK in general is very offensive, as public comments on media articles about Mcs leaving their children shows very clearly).

In June 2007, the tone of reporting changed, becoming more accusatory, peaking in September.

G pointed out the Portuguese article “Pact of Silence, alleging a sinister agreement to cover up, was one of worst.

G’s interview by Paxman in 2009 is featured, where he says the Mcs used the press when it was convenient to them and made them fair game. Paxman says” You reaped the whirlwind.”

The U.K. press were restrained after the Mcs and friend’s – and also Robert Murat – won substantial damages from the Express and Star group, as well as front page apologies.

Clarence Mitchell was also appointed as their media advisor. He declined an interview with Mark S.

Mark S says terrible lies were written about them. One story was about them selling M.

Sandra Felgueiras interview with G in 2009 is mentioned as an example of the Portuguese keeping on pushing stories against the Mcs (an incomprehensible interview as we now know her views about the dogs and the forensic evidence).

The saga of GAs book trial and the eventual SCJ hearing in 2017 is covered. The publisher, Fonseca of Guerra y Paz is interviewed and defends Mr Amaral’s right to say what he did. All the facts were in the public domain. 180k copies were sold. He is open to the proposition of an English version of the book .

Sonia concludes with lack of open debate about the subject. There are questions about the babysitting routine as a number of them were apparently left alone evening after evening. “I don’t believe the official narrative and I never have.”

Next podcast will be an interview with criminal profiler Pat Brown. About the alerts by the dogs behind the sofa: “Either they were wrong or there was a body there.”

As usual, any corrections, please let us know.

We feel this podcast is more defensive of the McCann’s position than previous ones but that’s only our feeling. Having this podcast preceded by the one with Joe Moura, we do hope we will not be “Netflixed” or see a building up of a case against the McCanns in a crescendo and then speciously try to convince us that our eyes our unable to see and that our brains are unable to think, basically try to convince us that the Mcs are guilty as hell but there’s just that tiny little bit missing to prosecute them, that 1:1,000,000,000 chance that it may not have been them which makes the establishment unable to act against them, so, as it’s “impossible” to judge them in a proper court, let’s move on at least comforted with the idea that they have been “properly” judged in the town square by the rest of “us”.

And talking about reasonable doubt, here’s how, according to some, a tiny stone makes a bus stop being a bus:

    4. Fonseca’s words:

"I'm a publisher and it is for me a matter of principle not to ban books, otherwise just in logical terms the possibility that the child died at the apartment by accident for example, la a scenario that was part of the investigation.
You can't forbid people to make logical assumptions.
The supreme court decision unequivocally says that Gonçalo Amaral's book, contrary to what Gerry and Kate McCann allege, doesn't affect the couple's right to privacy, their legitimate right to image and good name, since the facts exposed in the book were all public and known all over the world and they were first in the police report, before Amaral wrote his book."

This puts the podcast in a different light. It should have been made clear that Peterson wasn’t cleared of killing his wife. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

      Also this should be noted:

David Rudolf stopped representing Peterson pro bono in 2014 and another lawyer took over the case.

    8. David Rudolf is a self-publicist who speaks at lots of events, including in the U.K. The Netflix documentary The Staircase, featuring the Peterson case, omitted certain aspects. It’s concerning that Mark Saunokonoko used him in this podcast. I hope future podcasts aren’t heading in the direction they seem to be.

Mark S felt torn by Netflix doc. Not much of a journalist if he didn’t fully check the story and also realise that Rudolf was only involved with the case until 2014.
The fact that one of directors of The Staircase was in a 15 year relationship with Peterson explains any bias in Netflix.

And now we know why journalism has garbage. I was slandered by Australian journalists and their oversight agency could have cared less and now we have IPSO in the UK to be just as phony an organization as the Australian journalism regulators. I was libeled TWICE by The SUN, the reporter concocting headlines that appear as quotes I made which I never did. The quotes led readers to believe that I thought Smithman was an abductor of Madeline McCann and that I thought Smithman and Tannerman were one and the same, both headlines thereby eliminating Gerry McCann as Smithman. Everyone who has followed me well know that I believe Smithman is the key to solving the McCann case because the McCanns showed little interest and downplayed Smithman which supports my theory that Smithman is most likely Gerry McCann. The reporter did pull both headlines and wrote a retraction but only did so on the weeks-old online story that no one will see again. I asked for a retraction in and an apology in a prominent location in a new issue of the paper. This was never done and now IPSO is backing this worthless so-called lying journalist which only goes to show every IPSO doesn’t care that The Sun have the most minimal of standards.

    Dear Ms Brown

I write further to our earlier email regarding your complaint about an article headlined “KEY TO FINDING MADDIE Expert says mystery man spotted on night she disappeared is key to solving case of missing Madeleine McCann”, published by thesun.co.uk on 11 March 2019.

When IPSO receives a complaint, the Executive staff review it first to decide whether the complaint falls within our remit, and whether it raises a possible breach of the Editors’ Code of Practice. We have read your complaint carefully, and have decided that it does not raise a possible breach of the Editors’ Code.

You said that the article breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) because it misreported on views you had expressed on the Maddie podcast. You said that the headline gave the misleading impression that you had determined that Madeleine McCann had been “abducted”. You also said that the article gave the misleading impression that you believed the same person had been sighted by the Smiths and by Jane Tanner. You said that this is not your position, especially in light of the fact that this would exclude Gerry McCann as a suspect.

We noted that the article did not state that the “mystery man” spotted by the Smith family was the same man as Jane Tanner. We also noted that the article did not exclude Gerry McCann as being the “mystery man” sighted by the Smiths. Your complaint did not raise any possible breach of Clause 1 on this point.

  15. (Cont)

The original headline read “Madeleine McCann abductor walked right past Irish Family”. We noted that you were quoted as saying “I believe the Smith sighting occurred. I believe they saw a man carrying a little girl down that road, which is towards the beach” and that you believed the identity of the “mystery man” is the “number one issue about the whole case”. Whilst we understood your position that you did not consider this individual to be an “abductor”, and that you suspect that this individual to have been Gerry McCann, we considered whether the use of this term gave rise to a misleading impression of your view. Where you appeared to consider that an individual was seen carrying a child for apparently nefarious purposes, we did not consider that it was misleading for the publication to reasonably characterise the man as an “abductor,” irrespective of any pre-existing relationship with the child. In these circumstances, we did not consider that the headline gave rise to any misleading impression of your comments that would require correction, and therefore your concerns did not raise any possible breach of Clause 1.

You also said that you had not given an interview with the Sun and you were concerned as to why the story was syndicated. You should note that it is common practice for publications to report on stories which appear in other publications, as these have already been placed in the public domain. If you have copyright concerns, this is a legal matter with which we cannot assist.

You are entitled to request that the Executive’s decision to reject your complaint be reviewed by IPSO’s Complaints Committee. To do so you will need to write to us in the next seven days, setting out the reasons why you believe the decision should be reviewed. Please note that we are unable to accept requests for review made seven days after the date of this email.

We would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to consider the points you have raised, and have shared this correspondence with the newspaper to make it aware of your concerns.

    Best wishes,

Ricardo Correia Afonso was the lawyer signing the absolutely doomed to fail request for the annulment of the Supreme Court of Justice ruling. We would say that is telling about the hopes the McCanns have in getting any success with the ECHR.

About the request for the annulment of the Supreme Court of Justice ruling, in our post “The 3rd big surprise”, we wrote:

      Thank you!

Bringing it over to the blog:

“Ricardo Afonso (lawyer for the McCann children) spent almost two hours talking about numbers, comparing the book with selected bits of the case files and trying to discredit Gonçalo Amaral, the PJ and the dogs, while insisting that the British police didn't agree with the PJ's conclusions that led to the McCanns being made arguidos.

One example of his reasoning: the book starts with a mention of hunters hunting rabbits, which allegedly is out of season. So if the reference to the rabbit hunting season is wrong, everything else in the book is wrong, too.

It just went on and on and downwards fast.

He tried to dispute the dogs, the DNA tests, Mark Harrison's report which he said was only focused on the death possibility. The PJ, he alleged, was hell bent on accusing the McCanns and made the evidence fit the accusations.

In short, he was discussing stuff that was never subject to discussion; large parts of his allegations were focused on discussing the investigation and the McCanns' arguido status, with several references to Alipio Ribeiro and his "precipitation" quote.

He also attacked the Smiths' credibility and questioned why they were seen as credible by the investigation while Jane Tanner was discredited. He said that Tanner's sighting corroborated the Smiths' sighting, but the coordinator, Amaral, and his team simply wouldn't investigate anything except the death thesis and the McCanns.

The defendant, he said, just wanted to "sell blood, sweat and tears".

He added that the investigation deviated from any objectivity and that the British police, Martin Grime and Mark Harrison realised this and feared that the McCanns were going to be subject to an impulsive, unfounded making of arguidos.

He also recalled that Stuart Prior was "very worried" when he met with the PJ on the fourth of september, just days before the McCanns were made arguidos. And that he was worried because he knew it was wrong to accuse them of anything because there was no evidence and the DNA reports were being misread, for the PJ's convenience.

This is roughly where he was interrupted by the judge. He didn't spend two minutes addressing his own witnesses' testimonies.”

Police chief with McCann case history new top cop in Portugal

      By Mark Saunokonoko

A senior detective who investigated the 2007 disappearance of Madeleine McCann has been named Portugal's new chief of police.

Luis Neves, who previously headed up Portugal's counter-terrorism unit, will become the director of the Policia Judiciaria in June.

In the days after Maddie vanished, Neves assisted the massive police search for Madeleine because of his counter-terror background and experience in hostage taking and abduction situations.

When three-year-old Madeleine disappeared from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz on Portugal's Algarve on May 3, 2007, abduction was the first police line of inquiry.

However, as the investigation deepened, detectives also explored other possibilities - including declaring Maddie's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, formal suspects.

The McCanns have always denied playing any part in the disappearance of Madeleine, who was just days away from her fourth birthday. Both had their status of formal suspect lifted when the 14-month case was shelved in 2008, with police citing a lack of evidence to move the investigation forward. The McCanns have maintained from the outset that Madeleine was abducted.

Neves is known to be friends with Goncalo Amaral, the Portuguese detective who led the McCann investigation before he was abruptly removed from the case in October, 2007.

In 2008, Amaral wrote an explosive book about the Madeleine case.

The release of the book, a best-seller in Portugal, triggered a bitter legal battle with the McCanns. Kate and Gerry tried to sue Amaral for £1 million and have the book banned. Initially they succeeded, but Amaral appealed that decision in Portugal and won.

Giving testimony during the 2013 libel trial, Neves confirmed he and Amaral were friends as well as colleagues.

Last year, in what is a final throw of the dice, the McCanns lodged an appeal at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), trying to overturn the 2017 decision by Portugal's Supreme Court.

Nine.com.au can confirm the McCanns filed their case with the ECHR on July 28, 2017.

Their claim is still being processed by the court.

If alive, Madeleine would have turned 15 on May 12 this week.

Why it can be hard for police to admit they have been wrong

    By Mark Saunokonoko
    11:39am Apr 16, 2019

A phenomenon called noble cause corruption can sometimes unintentionally bias police investigations and lead to miscarriages of justice, according to a high-profile American defence lawyer.

Veteran attorney David S. Rudolf became something of a digital age folk hero after appearing in Netflix show The Staircase, a true crime documentary detailing the murder trial of US author Michael Peterson, who was found guilty of killing his wife but later had his conviction overturned.

Speaking in episode eight of Maddie, Nine.com.au's podcast investigation into Madeleine McCann's disappearance, Rudolf explained why, generally, it can sometimes be hard for police to back away from a line of inquiry that later appears to be flawed or wrong.

"The larger problem is not the kind of corruption that we normally think about but what ... is called noble cause corruption," Rudolf said.

"And that's the kind of corruption that occurs when the police believe in a particular theory, and take steps that are extra-judicial in order to prove their theory."

Rudolf explained that police and judges, like all human beings, can suffer from confirmation bias - a psychological dynamic where people tend to ignore or emphasise relevant facts depending on their beliefs.

"We all to a greater or lesser extent suffer from tunnel vision," he said.

"Police officers and even judges [can have] a certain arrogance about their ability to determine what actually happened, and then fall guilty to tunnel vision and confirmation bias."

In 2017, a senior London Metropolitan Police figure rejected claims Operation Grange detectives had a "closed mind" about scenarios which do not involve Madeleine McCann being abducted in May 2007.

Rudolf also offered his opinion on why Scotland Yard's Operation Grange, the $20 million, seven-year UK police investigation into the Madeleine mystery, have so far failed to take up an offer from one of the world's leading DNA scientists to solve a series of possibly case-changing DNA samples.

Following an investigation by Nine.com.au, US forensic scientist Dr Mark Perlin has made a formal offer to London Metropolitan Police to untangle 18 complex DNA samples at no cost. Those DNA samples, taken from the McCann holiday apartment and rental car, were ruled "inconclusive" in 2007 and are potentially loaded with vital clues about Madeleine's disappearance.

A former Scotland Yard homicide detective, Colin Sutton, has said solving those DNA samples could be a "gamechanger" for police. Two of the 18 DNA samples being sought for analysis by Dr Perlin were lifted from a rental car hired weeks after Madeleine vanished.

To date, Dr Perlin has had no response or acknowledgement from Scotland Yard.

"The natural conclusion I think is what's the harm of doing the analysis? And if you don't want to do the analysis then perhaps what you're afraid of is that you'll be shown to have been wrong in your initial theory," Rudolf said, speaking about Operation Grange's apparent unwillingness so far to take up Dr Perlin's offer.

"And that's hard for people, you know. It's hard for people to admit they're wrong and it's hard for people to agree to testing that may show they're wrong. What it says to me is that whoever is resisting it is human and they're somewhat concerned that what they initially thought may not be the case."

Operation Grange detectives were first made aware of Dr Perlin's offer in March last year. Scotland Yard have been contacted several times since by Nine.com.au but refused to comment on Dr Perlin.

Dr Perlin, chief scientist at Cybergenetics, has confirmed to Nine.com.au he has not been contacted by anyone at Scotland Yard, including DCI Nicola Wall who heads up the investigation which was launched in 2011 and has cost taxpayers more than $20 million.

The UK Home Office is currently considering a request for further funding, believed to be $300,000, from Operation Grange to continue the investigation through to March 2020.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May and the Home Office both declined to comment on Dr Perlin's pro bono offer when approached by Nine.com.au.

In an earlier episode of Maddie, retired London Metropolitan Police detective Colin Sutton was asked what it could mean if Dr Perlin's analysis confirmed the presence of Madeleine's DNA in that rental car, a silver Renault Scenic.

"On that basis, that that car was hired by the McCanns three weeks after Madeleine disappeared, then it is a real game changer, isn't it? Because there is no way, according to information that we have, that she could have been in that car," said Sutton, who solved more than 30 murders, including catching English serial killer Levi Bellfield.

"The big question then is how can her DNA get into that car three weeks after she disappeared?"

Dr Perlin said DNA transference could be a possible explanation if Madeleine's DNA is found to be present in the car, and would be something examined by police and forensic experts.

DNA analysis by Dr Perlin could also conclusively rule out Madeleine as ever having been in the car, helping to narrow the focus of the investigation, as well as shed light on some of the questions around the other DNA samples.

In a rare media briefing about Operation Grange in 2017, the now retired London Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley was asked if Madeleine’s parents had ever been questioned under caution or considered suspects.

"The involvement of the parents, that was dealt with at the time by the original investigation by the Portuguese," Rowley replied.

"We had a look at all the material and we are happy that was all dealt with and there is no reason whatsoever to reopen that or start rumours that was a line of investigation."

During questioning, he fended off criticism Operation Grange and its investigative remit of a potential abduction appeared to have a "closed mind" to the possibility of the involvement of someone known to the family, an accident or the girl walking out of the apartment.

Kate and Gerry McCann, both doctors from Rothley, Leicestershire, have strenuously denied they were involved in the disappearance of their daughter. Nine.com.au does not suggest any involvement on their part.

Mr and Mrs McCann left Madeleine and their two other children alone while they ate dinner at a nearby restaurant with a group of friends.

They believed an intruder struck while they were out, taking Madeleine from her bed.

Aged three when she vanished, Madeleine would turn 16 in 2019.

Madeleine McCann: Key witness statement about blood in rental car should be explored

    By Mark Saunokonoko
    1:05am Apr 25, 2017

A law enforcement expert who specialises in detecting lies and deception has pinpointed an "area of concern" in a key witness statement in the Madeleine McCann case.

Mark McClish, a former US Marshall and Secret Service agent, has analysed a statement given to police in 2008 by Gerry McCann's brother-in-law, almost one year after Maddie vanished.

Parts of that statement which relate to blood and a strange odour in the back of a rental car should be explored further, McClish said.

In the aftermath of Maddie's disappearance Alexander 'Sandy' Cameron flew into Portugal from England with his wife Trish, and spent nearly three months with Kate and Gerry.

During that time Sandy was listed as a registered driver for a silver Renault Scenic that had been rented by the McCanns.

In late July of 2007, that vehicle became a lightning rod of interest to both Portugal's detectives and the huge media pack that had descended on the small town of Praia da Luz.

As the hunt for the missing four-year-old intensified, a pair of British police dogs, one a specialist in sniffing out human cadaverine, the other a human blood canine, were brought to Portugal.

The dogs were filmed alerting inside the McCann holiday apartment, next to a shelved wardrobe in Kate and Gerry's bedroom and behind a couch in the living room.

Later, both dogs again registered hits on the Renault Scenic which had been hired by the McCanns 25 days after Madeleine disappeared.

Swabs were taken from the boot of the car and sent for forensics, revealing 15 of the 19 markers matched Madeleine's DNA.

The report from British forensic scientist John Lowe stated the results were "too complex for meaningful inclusion and interpretation".

In an attempt to try and make sense of the forensic results, Portuguese investigators requested Sandy Cameron make a written statement, which included answers to several questions about the Renault car.

Cameron wrote how he would sometimes use the car to take black garbage bags from the villa where he and the McCanns were staying to the local dump.

He also explained how blood from meat, fish and shrimps had leaked from shopping bags into the boot of the car, which was where human blood dog Keela alerted.

McClish, who now trains police and military interrogators in the art of statement analysis, said Cameron's overall statement appeared truthful but that the part about leaked blood warranted further investigation.

It was an "area of concern", according to McClish.

Like cadaver dogs, statement analysis is not evidence admissible in court. Law enforcement agencies use these tools to assist investigations and zero in on potential line of inquiry.

McClish told Nine.com.au that careful examination of words, phrases and language could help ascertain deception or truth.

"A truthful person's language will usually remain consistent.

    (Cont)

    ReplyDelete
  21. (Cont)

"Deceptive people will sometimes use synonyms because they are making up a portion of their story they cannot relate to and consequently do not always follow their personal dictionary."

Throughout his statement, Cameron used the word "vehicle" to describe the Renault until he reaches the point where he talks about the odour. Then the Renault becomes a "car".

While recounting the blood and odour, Cameron also made a change in language between past and present tense.

"The use of present tense is an indication this part of the story may not be coming from memory," McClish told Nine.com.au

The former cop said every small word in a statement has a meaning and justification.

He added that, if he were an investigator, he would be inclined to ask Cameron more about the odour and the trips to the supermarket.

McClish noted how Cameron, despite have a much closer personal relationship to Gerry, ordered the pair as "Kate and Gerry" significantly more often throughout the statement.

"It may be that he feels that Kate needs more support than Gerry, which caused him to mention her name first," McClish theorised.

The McCanns have resolutely denied any involvement in the disappearance of their daughter.

Gerry and Kate's reaction to sniffer dogs hitting on McCann holiday apartment and rental car 'didn't make sense'

    By Mark Saunokonoko
    2:18pm Mar 20, 2017

The footage of sniffer dogs searching the McCann's holiday apartment and rental car was one of the most jarring moments to emerge from the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine.

Gerry and Kate McCann, who resolutely claim Maddie was abducted, have always questioned the reliability and objectivity of British dogs Eddie and Keela, despite their impressive credentials.

During those searches, Eddie, a cadaver dog trained to detect the odour of a dead body, is seen alerting and barking in Kate and Gerry's bedroom of holiday apartment 5A.

Eddie also "hits" and barks loudly behind a blue couch in the living room of the Praia da Luz apartment where the McCann family stayed in 2007.

A second sniffer dog, Keela, trained only to detect human blood, also alerted behind the couch.

Six days later, on August 6, both dogs alerted on a Renault Scenic rental car the McCann's hired 25 days after Madeleine vanished.

Though the work of cadaver and blood dogs cannot be submitted as evidence, investigators hoped Eddie and Keela would provide crucial clues as to what might have happened to Maddie on May 3.

Just days after the dogs finished searching, the McCanns were sensationally named 'arguidos' (a person being questioned under caution) by Portugal's Policia Judiciaria. The 'arguido' status was lifted from Kate and Gerry after 10 months.

US criminal profiler Pat Brown, who for almost a decade has studied the case and written extensively on Madeleine's disappearance, described Kate and Gerry's reaction to the sniffer dogs as "just not right".

"What dogs do is either help you find a body or they help you understand what happened to a body or that there has been a body there," Brown told Nine.com.au.

"[The McCann's] reaction to the dogs hitting on things, their reaction and behaviour was incorrect. It didn't make sense," Brown claimed.

Brown believed it strange that the McCann's did not appear "very concerned" that the work of the dogs indicated a dead body had been in their Algarve holiday apartment.

The crime expert, who as part of her repertoire analyses human behaviour, pointed out that the McCanns could just be "off the charts as an anomaly" when it comes to ways people might typically react to events. Brown added it was in no way a singular sign of anything untoward.

Another possible explanation, unrelated to Brown's analysis, was that Kate and Gerry simply could not bring themselves to concede Maddie had died.

During a 2009 television interview with Portuguese journalist Sandra Felgueira, Gerry McCann was asked about the cadaver dogs alerting to the scent of a dead body in apartment 5A and their rental car.

"I can tell you that we've obviously looked at evidence about cadaver dogs and they're incredibly unreliable," McCann replied.

Kate McCann made similar assertions in the book she wrote about her family's ordeal, titled Madeleine.

Sniffer dogs Eddie and Keela had been brought to Praia da Luz in July 2007 at the request of Mark Harrison, a British investigator and national adviser to UK police, who specialises in searching for people missing, abducted or murdered.

Harrison's remit from Portugal's Policia Judiciaria was to solely explore the possibility that Madeleine had been murdered and her body was concealed in surrounding areas, according to police files.

In one of his preliminary reports, Harrison said any alerts by the dogs may suggest that a body had been in the property and then removed. He added "no inference can be drawn as to whether a human cadaver has previously been in any location without other supporting physical evidence".

As Harrison delivered his report, Policia Judiciaria were submitting and awaiting results on forensic evidence taken from behind the sofa in apartment 5A and the boot of the Renault car.

A British scientist from the now defunct Forensic Science Service, John Lowe, came back to Portugal's detectives with forensic results that appeared inconclusive but open to interpretation.

In a September 3, 2007 email, Lowe stated the swab taken from behind the sofa produced an "incomplete DNA result".

However, Lowe continued: "All of the confirmed DNA components within this result match the corresponding components in the DNA profile of Madeline McCann".

Lowe said his testing of the swab from behind the sofa could not determine what kind of bodily fluid made up the DNA sample.

But, as would be later noted by the handler of sniffer dog Keela, his canine was only trained to alert to human blood, nothing else.

The forensics taken from the boot of the Renault Scenic was judged by Lowe to be "too complex for meaningful inclusion and interpretation".

However, Lowe also concluded that 15 of 19 components present in the sample could be linked to Madeleine.

Though "complex", the forensic results from the rental car mean it was possible that Madeleine may have been present in the Renault Scenic.

In his book, Goncalo Amaral, the Portuguese detective the McCanns tried to silence, said his team confirmed nobody had ever died in apartment 5A, prior to the arrival of Madeleine's family.

Martin Grime, the handler of cadaver dog Eddie, said the dog appeared immediately "very excited" when they arrived at the door of 5A.

"As soon as [Eddie] has come into the house he's picked up a scent that he recognises," Grimes said in a police interview in August 2007.

He detailed how the dog barked in two places in the apartment, in the bedroom close to a large wardrobe with shelves, and behind the sofa.

"What we should understand with this dog is that he only barks when he finds something, he won't bark at any other times. He won't bark at other dogs, he won't bark at strangers, he won't bark when somebody knocks on the door or anything like that," Grimes said in the interview.

Grimes also added in the police report that the work of his dogs Eddie and Keela should be backed up and confirmed with corroborating evidence, such as forensics.

Cadaver dogs are used widely by Australian police forces to locate dead and missing bodies, according to NSW Dog Unit Commander, Acting Superintendent Sheridan Waldau.

A/Supt Waldau told Nine.com.au he was unsure how cadaver dogs were used in the McCann case, but that his unit can "detect minute amounts of blood or remains across large designated areas".

    (Cont)

  24. (Cont)

"Cadaver dogs … have proven vital to uncovering evidence in past investigations," he added.

Several studies have tried to pinpoint the minimum length of time it takes for a dead body to emit a cadaver odour.

A 2007 study from the University of Bern in Switzerland recorded highly trained dogs accurately alerting to cadaver scent within three hours of a person dying.

Other research has shown human corpses will begin to emit cadaver dogs can detect 90 minutes after death.

As we have explained extensively, being an arguido is not the equivalent of UK’s being “heard under caution” but a status whereby, when being questioned by the police, the citizen has more rights than others have.

    a) Portuguese S&R dogs who may have tracked Madeleine's living scent
    b) UK cadaver dog who may have alerted to an unspecified cadaver

The FACT that it was considered by the Portuguese justice system as PROVEN FACT that there was marks of cadaver scent in apartment 5A, clearly shows that the correct answer is b).

Problem is that many people think they can write up multiple choice questions when they can’t because if one was to answer a), one would also be 100% correct as no one has disregarded the alerts given by these dogs.

I'm not saying DNA evidence is useless, especially when in places a suspect's DNA in a location relating to a crime. It's exceptionally useful for paternity disputes.

Frog: “It's as successful as a judge allows it to be”.

That may be the most important phrase that the Frog may have written up to date. Also the most damning to her and her cause as well.

A judge has allowed the dog alerts in the Maddie case to be proved evidence.

Post Scriptum: What Portuguese law is this: “their law only allowing suspects in MBM crime to have to provide DNA samples”?

      Frog,

The only database needed in this case is Maddie’s DNA. If it matches the DNA from the samples collected in the Scenic and if its presence there cannot be explained by contamination – such as type and location (within Scenic) of origin of sample – then the McCanns have a lot of explaining to do.

      Now back to the question:

We are not demanding any doxing from anyone. As we said, we fully respect every person’s right to anonymity.

What we are demanding, and that we certainly are, is an end to the hypocrisy.

Rest assure that we will not dox anyone. It’s way beneath the values we have set for ourselves. Even if people continue to be gender-fake hypocrites. People who are very comfortable to dox but then when the boot is in the other foot, they become very, very angry.

What we are saying is very simple. It’s up to them to continue or not with the hypocrisy. If they do, and ONLY in that case, then we demand, which we think is the ONLY rightful thing to do, that the playing field is levelled and then all must be doxed (by them, not by us), including their friends.

Then, after that, once there’s no more hypocrisy, they can say whatever they like about Textusa’s gender.

Interesting how evasive Mark S is.

The ECHR question: If obtaining the number of the process is a simple and straightforward process – please note that Mark S does not refer to any special treatment for reporters by the ECHR (why would they have it?) as he encourages any anonymous citizen to contact the court to obtain same information – then why redact it?

What is so secret about it? It would help any anonymous citizen to search and know the status of said process. We see no breach of confidentiality and if all is as transparent as Mark S says he is, we strongly encourage him to publish the unredacted number so all those who are interested in the case may be able to follow it.

The Michael Wright question: Mark S assumes above, very clearly that the “Michael” mentioned in his tweet of April 10 is Michael Wright and that on that date he made, wrong or right, a direct correlation between Michael Wright and the Killa Dog account.

That means that on Feb 5, when he makes the invitation for an interview to @MikeWrightUK he was under the full impression that Michael Wright was Killa Dog.

The Killa Dog account is a very vicious and nasty account – one who has threatened this blog with the Brighton bombing IRA quote – very well known to anyone following the case. A young journalist was shot dead this week in Derry, by a presumed IRA group, making that tweet more chilling, as Killa dog seems to approve of their tactics.

Mark S has absolutely no qualms in slandering Michael Wright on April 10 by accusing him of being Killa Dog.

Then having been “pointed out to me by someone I trust that that account is not MW” he makes absolutely no effort to apologise to Michael Wright for the supposedly unjustified slandering.

One would even think that Mark S knows that Michael Wright won’t be offended for being called Killa Dog by Mark S.

    1. If Mcs did give him a court ref number, why would he not say so?
“I was given this number in confidence by Mcs so can’t share it, but I’ll keep you informed”
Then question would be, why keep us informed when we could do it ourselves if we knew the ref?
Why have you been given this in confidence as Mcs could have told the public themselves and shown the case status with redacted ref?

If it’s been leaked by their lawyer without Mcs permission, it would be obvious to them, so can’t see this being the explanation
If leaked by a court official, a serious breach which Mcs would surely report to ECHR, so can’t see this being the explanation either.

So the question is, if the Mcs or their representative gave it to only one reporter, and one not from UK to boot, why?

    2. If one looks for a case before the echr, this is a page you come to.

"The Court’s State of Proceedings (SOP) search engine enables parties to find out the current procedural state of an application solely for cases that are:

      Allocated to a judicial formation
      Not anonymous
Pending before the Court or have been disposed of within the last two years

If the application you are looking for does not meet the above criteria the following message will appear: “No information can be given for this application.” Please note that the information relating to the SOP is available two months after a change in the state of proceedings for a case."
      ............................

The screen grab by Mark showed the "application was awaiting first judicial decision".Clearly not at a stage where it can be traced so the redacted case number must have come from the lawyers, whose is another question.

    *****

The Maddie case is a huge and very complex puzzle. To add to the complication there are deliberately as many pieces that do not belong to it as almost there are that do.

And within that huge puzzle there are sub-puzzles. The “gang-puzzle” is one of them.

Its pieces are filthy. Disgusting. It turns one’s stomach to handle them and the gloves we wear when we do, we destroy, so repugnantly toxic they are. But it’s a puzzle and when its pieces fit nicely – as all puzzle pieces must – than the overall picture, however nauseating it may be, becomes clear.

Looking at the tweet above, one does not understand why Textusa is brought up. The question was about why Mark S alleges Killa Dog to be Michael Wright. Where does Textusa come in that context?

Very strange for someone who claims not to read Textusa to be obsessed with Textusa. Why is he not obsessed with any other “truth-seeker” out there?

About the content of the tweet there can only be one of 2 cases. Either Killa Dog is right and Textusa is “an ageing Portuguese Short Arse” or he isn’t.

If it’s true, then how does Killa Dog – who has threatened the blog with the Brighton bombing IRA quote – know?

Has he met Textusa? Has he seen Textusa? Then, under what circumstances did that happen?

Has he met someone who has met up with Textusa? Then, who? And why would that person have any relationship with Killa Dog?

If it’s false, then who else on the internet panders in the last year via a very palpable, even obsessive effort so that the notion that Textusa is “an ageing Portuguese Short Arse and a one man band” is taken as real?

It shows how much in synch with the gang Killa Dog is.

It’s a filthy, filthy morally vacuumed, valueless cesspit of a puzzle but its pieces do fit very nicely together, don’t they?

    *****

A year ago, on April 9 2018 to be exact, Mr Thompson and Orlov were strong candidates for same-sex marriage, so strong was Mr Thompson’s love for Orlov.

In fact, and Mr Thompson has written a very, very long post in his blog (pinned for a long time on Justice for Madeleine FB group) where he explains how Orlov was the ONLY reason he fell out with us.

To recap historically: at that time, we wrongly accused Orlov of being NotTextusa. Mr Thompson messaged me privately on FB to warn me that Orlov was not NotTextusa. I told him to go around the corner to see if I was there, and if I was, to tell me to wait and not leave before I arrived. Or in summarising, told him I couldn’t care less about whatever (repeat, whatever) he had to say.

This not wanting to listen to anything Mr Thompson had to tell me then had nothing to do with Orlov but had to do with the fact that Mr Thompson as admin of Justice for Madeleine FB group had allowed a series of posts insulting Textusa. Mr Thompson was among the insulting.

Coming over and talking privately, in a friendly manner, and thinking that I would interact normally only shows Mr Thompson’s arrogance and absolutely distorted sense of self-importance.

And to prove we had no problems in recognising our mistake, after another person telling me that Orlov was not indeed Not Textusa, we publicly recognised that we were wrong.

But, all that matters is that for Mr Thompson, my rejection of his defense of a close friend of MANY YEARS (so not exactly only “over a year ago”) was the ONLY reason he stopped supporting Textusa.

Textusa, on April 9 2018, just “over a year ago”, had become the latest to have fooled Mr Thompson.

Now do add the latest, Mr Thompson’s “love of his life”, Orlov. The latest to have fooled him. We are hurt, we have now become second on the list of those who fooled Mr Thompson. A long list.
Mr Thompson does come across as someone who is easily fooled by anyone. We wonder if he has now also had an epiphany about NT who, like Jules, is no longer admin on Justice?

Of course, only Mr Thompson is allowed to have epiphanies (and he’s had so many):

To be clear, we condemn on the strongest terms the use of the word “slag” to describe anyone.

Also, and as we have said, an enemy of an enemy is not a friend. He’s just the enemy of an enemy and that’s it.

The fact that the Orlov/Thompson marriage has ended doesn’t make us alter in any way – please revisit all the adjectives we’ve used to describe him – our opinion about Orlov.

But we have to agree with Confused. We didn’t see any of those who are now outraged – rightly so, we repeat – with the use of the word “slag” but were totally silent when Mr Thompson called Textusa a nonce.

Nothing like to be consistent in hypocrisy.

Pea-brained yokel on twitter and praising Mark S should be prevented from having this number as they would abuse it by using it to get money from cash machines or hack e-mails...

In reality, all it could be used for is to access the site and get precisely the same info Mark Saunokonoko has provided. Or worse, follow the progress of the case.

By the way, when you say “pea-brained yokel” are you referring to all the readers at the Justice for Madeleine FB group who have rightfully asked during the last year and half for information about the progress and status of this process?

We would equate the word “slag” in this context as disgusting as Trump’s “grab them by the p…” bus episode. Disgusting, reprehensible and totally out of order. Should be and we have condemned it in very clear terms.

But like Trump’s disgusting remark, we don’t see any violent intent just childish adults being stupidly childish in what they consider – and we don’t subscribe – to be a humorous situation. Sick humour, insulting nonetheless.

Where were you when Mr Thompson called Textusa a nonce?

“Pseudo Nym has left a new comment on your post "Jules and owning the BRT":

For the avoidance of doubt, and to prevent you from twisting my words, when I say no residue, I mean no oily or physical residue that would be retrievable from where the body was positioned. Now off you scurry, and prove me wrong, you NONCE.

Posted by Pseudo Nym to Textusa at 27 Jan 2019, 15:26:00 “

We see no humour or attempted humour there, not even of the sick kind. We just see an act of aggression using violent words with that intent and nothing else.

We didn’t see you react in any way then.

Was then your moral compass under repair? If it was, it was a useless effort as it’s broken beyond repair.

      *****

That’s how myths start. For example, this friend of yours is spreading that Gerry has a criminal record dating back to 2002 (as proof of this he shows a screengrab of tweet from another idiot just like him).

Next thing you know, it will be taken that Orlov were called the ‘Bunny’s Charlie’s Angels’ sluts and not slags. A thousand slags and sluts afterwards, people will not only not care to know if it’s the truth that someone called you a slag and not a slut. Then, people will only remember that you were called a slut (which you weren’t) and the fact it was slag instead will dissipate and disappear with time.
That’s how distorted facts become very quickly truths. Then follows that tiresome process of you having to explain to the misinformed by the distortion what is true and what is not.

And we don’t want that, do we? So do correct on the strongest terms your friend that it was slag not slut.

Talking about calling other people sluts, did you react against this, which is totally out of order as well?

No, we’re not insulting as we recognise fully all the derogatory and misogynistic meaning it has, nor are we implying that anyone in the case is one but the word and the reactions it caused are rather relevant to the case.

Our readers may be tired of the “slag-gate” and wondering why we have given it such importance.

It has turned out, at least in our opinion, to be very important to help explain what happened on that fateful night of May 3.

A US forensic expert has asked police if he can reexamine DNA samples relating to Madeleine McCann's disappearance in a bid to find out what happened to her.

Madeleine was three when she vanished from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in the Algarve in 2007 as her parents, Gerry and Kate, dined with friends at a nearby restaurant.

Dr Mark Perlin has lodged a request to London's Metropolitan Police to analyse the 18 samples at his Pittsburgh lab Cybernetics.

The samples were previously put under the microscope by the UK's Forensic Science Service (FSS) in Birmingham after Maddie's disappearance in 2007.

At the time FSS scientist Dr John Lowe said the samples were 'too complex' for his team.

But Dr Perlin claims that his team's TrueAllele computer programme can analyse far more complex data and could provide answers in just a week.

Speaking to the Daily Star Online, he said: 'I think the FSS did generate reliable DNA data and their methods were proven laboratory methods, some of which they even innovated.

'But they didn't know how to properly interpret the data that they had generated.

'If you use a computer programme that can use all of the data and consider millions of different possibilities, that would give you more information than other methods that usually give no answer at all.'

Dr Perlin said it would take one to two weeks to take the tests depending on the data to provide some initial preliminary report.

He added what he needed was 'the electronic data which comes out of the laboratory off instruments'.

It isn't the first time the Dr has helped in a criminal investigation.

In 2016 his lab successfully analysed a complex piece and small piece of evidence in the high-profile mass murder trial of Robert Xie in Australia

The Dr's work was a vital in securing a conviction against Xie who killed five of his relatives and was not convicted at three previous trials.

The Dr made a pro-bono offer to police to test the samples - but has yet to receive a response.

Euclides Monteiro, 40, who died in a freak tractor accident in 2009, worked at the Ocean Club Resort in Praia da Luz, which Maddie disappeared from.

It emerged in 2013 that Mr Monteiro, who was sacked from his job, was a suspect in the abduction was never questioned by police.

He died before an interview could take place.

In March this year a controversial new Netflix documentary claims Madeleine McCann might still be alive and could be being held by people traffickers - 12 years after she disappeared.

Shortly before Madeleine disappeared, Mr Monteiro was sacked from The Ocean Club for stealing from guests.

A Met Police spokeswoman said: 'The investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann remains ongoing. We are not providing a running commentary.'

The McCann family have been approached by MailOnline for comment.

Madeleine McCann case could be cracked in just ‘ONE week in DNA bombshell’

VITAL DNA evidence relating to Madeleine McCann’s disappearance could herald an enormous breakthrough in just one week, a forensic expert has told Daily Star Online.

By Tom Towers / Published 22nd April 2019

US-based Dr Mark Perlin has lodged a request with London’s Metropolitan Police to release 18 samples from the investigation.

Dr Perlin claims his Pittsburgh lab Cybernetics – which has identified victims of the 9/11 terror attack – can unlock samples UK authorities struggled to analyse.

Portuguese police initially sent DNA findings to be examined by the UK’s Forensic Science Service (FSS) in Birmingham after Maddie’s disappearance in 2007.

But senior FSS scientist Dr John Lowe said they were “too complex” for his team.

Unlike the FSS, Dr Perlin’s team possess a computer programme called TrueAllele that can analyse far more complex data.

He told Daily Star Online: “I think the FSS did generate reliable DNA data and their methods were proven laboratory methods, some of which they even innovated.

“But they didn’t know how to properly interpret the data that they had generated.

“If you use a computer programme that can use all of the data and consider millions of different possibilities, that would give you more information than other methods that usually give no answer at all.

Asked how long the necessary tests would take, Dr Perlin replied: “What we actually need is the electronic data that comes out of the laboratory off their instruments.

“That’s the standard starting point for DNA analysis.

“It would take us one to two weeks, depending on the data, after we receive it to provide some initial preliminary report.”

In 2016, Dr Perlin’s lab successfully analysed a small and complex piece of evidence in a high-profile mass murder trial in Australia.

It was pivotal in securing a guilty verdict against Robert Xie, who slaughtered five relatives and evaded justice at three earlier trials.

Dr Perlin made a pro-bono offer to test the relevant DNA samples to the Metropolitan Police, but has yet to receive a response.

It earlier emerged another suspect in the abduction was never questioned by police – because he was fired from his job and died before an interview could take place.

Euclides Monteiro was sacked from The Ocean Club for stealing from guests shortly before Maddie disappeared.

Portuguese media claimed Monteiro, a heroin addict, may have kidnapped the girl as an act of revenge against his former employer.

A Met Police spokeswoman said: "The investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann remains ongoing. We are not providing a running commentary."

Daily Star Online has approached the McCann family’s spokesman for comment.

    MADDIE DNA BLOW
Hope new DNA tech could help crack Madeleine McCann’s disappearance are dashed after it fails to produce a match

The DNA-17 technique has yet to produce a match despite hopes it would point to any alleged abductor

    Updated: 23rd April 2019, 12:57 am

DNA tests using an advanced wonder technique have failed to crack the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

The DNA-17 technique has yet to produce a match despite hopes it would point to any alleged abductor.

It was used to check samples from the apartment from which three-year-old Madeleine vanished almost 12 years ago.

But a source told The Sun: “As you would expect, all efforts have been made to obtain forensic evidence in Madeleine’s case.

“These efforts include DNA testing on forensic samples using updated techniques. So far nothing has materialised but work still continues.”

Madeleine disappeared from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Algarve, on May 3, 2007.

More than 100 forensic items were recovered but the quality of samples was too poor to give investigators a match.

However, Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry, were hopeful that DNA-17, hailed as the biggest scenes of crime breakthrough in 20 years, would finally provide an answer.

Met Police officers asked for items to be retested in Portuguese labs but so far to no avail.

Former detective chief inspector Mick Neville insisted there was still hope.

He said: “DNA technology advances every year and what is seemingly impossible now may be a simple procedure in the future.”

    *****

After the Daily Mail (14:38 BST, 21 April 2019 | Updated: 18:47 BST, 21 April 2019) and the Daily Star (22nd April 2019) said Dr Perlin was filing a request for his tests, the Sun via Antonella Lazzeri (22nd April 2019, 10:30 pm, Updated: 23rd April 2019, 12:57 am) comes to say not only Grange has accepted but that the tests have already been done and come to no significant result.

Now we’ll just have to see how Dr Perlin reacts on seeing his reputation slandered.

Note, we’re not saying that he has to produce the result that he has matched Maddie’s DNA but he has to, after putting his reputation on the line the way he did, say that there was a definite result. Meaning he has to say whether Maddie’s DNA is present in the samples.

Saying that it’s all back to square one, is not an acceptable outcome and quite ruinous to Dr Perlin’s reputation.

EXCLUSIVE Over-hyped DNA-17 is 'really old' tech and can't solve Maddie case, expert claims
By Mark Saunokonoko - 3 hours ago

A so-called advanced wonder technique used to re-test vital DNA samples in the Madeleine McCann mystery is actually just "really old" DNA technology from 15 years ago, according to a world-leading US expert in forensic science.

Citing an unnamed source, The Sun today reported how Operation Grange police had used a technique called DNA-17 to reanalyse DNA samples from the case ruled "inconclusive" by a British lab in 2007.

The comments follow a remarkable pro bono offer to solve 18 DNA samples which could explain what happened to Madeleine McCann – first revealed in the nine.com.au podcast Maddie.

Like the 2007 tests, DNA-17 had failed produce a match or any meaningful analysis, according to the top-selling British tabloid.

But speaking exclusively to nine.com.au's podcast Maddie, American DNA scientist Dr Mark Perlin rubbished DNA-17 technology as outdated and incapable of cracking the Maddie mystery – despite The Sun touting it as one of the biggest forensic breakthroughs in 20 years.

"There is nothing terribly new about it," Dr Perlin, chief scientist of Pittsburgh laboratory Cybergenetics, said.

"Basically this DNA-17 is an older technology that is ... being claimed as being new.

"It is new for the British."

Dr Perlin will speak more about DNA-17 in this week's upcoming episode of Maddie. The eighth episode of Maddie has been delayed from its usual Monday release schedule because of what nine.com.au described as "a significant interview" secured late on the eve of the Easter holiday.

Dr Perlin explained how DNA-17 technology had been available in the US, home to the world's most advanced forensic techniques, for around 15 years.

He said DNA-17 lacked the necessary power to interpret the very complex DNA samples, potentially loaded with clues, which were lifted from behind a blue sofa in the McCann holiday apartment and a rental car hired weeks after Madeleine vanished.

The McCann samples are highly challenging because they were small and mixed with more than one person's DNA.

Nine.com.au has provided a series of forensic reports from the UK lab that tested the McCann samples in 2007, the Forensic Science Service (FSS), to top American scientist Dr Perlin for review.

Asked what he had seen in that FSS documentation, Dr Perlin said: "What this report says is there is a possibility that Madeleine McCann's DNA is present in this mixture."

As reported by nine.com.au today, DCI Nicola Wall, the head of Operation Grange, has so far not acknowledged an offer from Dr Perlin to solve 18 key samples for no cost.

Dr Perlin has pioneered what is widely believed to the most powerful DNA testing methods on the planet.

Cybergenetics uses computational algorithms to decipher samples once thought to be unsolvable.

The Sun reported Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry, had been hopeful that DNA-17 would finally provide an answer to what happened to their daughter.

Dr Perlin has told Scotland Yard's Operation Grange his lab could resolve the samples for Mr and Mrs McCann for free and inside a week.

Mr and Mrs McCann, both doctors from Rothley, Leicestershire, have strenuously denied they were involved in the disappearance of their daughter and nine.com.au does not suggest any involvement on their part.

And that's why we have brought up Dr Perlin's reputation.

As we have informed readers, we have withheld our views about this, however any and all scenarios have Dr Perlin's reputation on the line.

Meaning that IF the tests go across the Atlantic, then we are certainly going to get correct results. The ones the FSS was supposed to have provided 12 years ago.

There's a request in the police files from Paulo Rebelo for the FSS to do corpse banding tests on Madeleine's hair samples. There's no reply or any results in the files to show these tests were conducted. I would really like to know why!

    *****

From our post “SY's Significant Moves (with 20OCT2014 Post-Scriptum)”:
    http://textusa.blogspot.com/2014/10/sys-significant-moves.html

“Mr Amaral, in that appearance described how vital leads in the case appear to have been dropped deliberately.

He talked of high-level political involvement which left DNA samples untested and key witnesses overlooked. He also said that DNA evidence from the McCanns’ rental car could have been more thoroughly tested and that hair samples were not followed up because the British lab claimed hair samples without roots couldn’t be tested.

He says it was possible to test at the time and is now possible. All that needs to be done is to send the hair samples that are in Portugal to a European laboratory, or anywhere where these examinations are done without roots.

He must be referring to the process - the PJ files - which were made available in 2008 and therefore available for checking.

Two IFs follow here: IF this is the material Mr Amaral is referring to and IF the hairs are sent for testing and prove to be Madeleine’s, is this decisive proof? Would an innocent explanation for hairs being found in these particular locations be feasible or would it become part of a body of circumstantial evidence?

A darkened band at the root portion of the hair – this post-mortem hair banding is a sign of decomposition. It seems to take several days to develop. But admissibility of this evidence seems to depend on judge’s interpretation as to the scientific reliability of such evidence. Refers to Casey Anthony trial in 2011 where FBI analyst testified hair from car trunk was probably from a dead body.

    (…)

Brízida Martins says nothing about possible new evidence that may have been found during the searches and excavations in the terrain of PdL in June.

He’s quite clear that SY wants a repeat. A technologically updated one. One that is to bring new results from old samples.

If the hairs Mr Amaral speaks of were now indeed to be Maddie’s, it would be game over for the McCanns.

To us, in 2007 PJ tried to make a “body” of accumulating circumstantial evidence, no one part of which was conclusive, but together, built a picture of parental involvement.

As we know, this process was boycotted.

    (Cont)

  51. (Cont)

But now, however much can be invented to explain how hairs were transferred by some means to the unlikely place of a tyre well, if they were to discover any evidence of post mortem banding and are able to now say this hair was from Maddie, it would change everything. The McCanns would have to explain why the hairs of a dead Maddie were in the Scenic. Game over, no question about that.”

From our post “Summer break update”:
    http://textusa.blogspot.com/2016/08/summer-break-update.html

“Supposing we are correct about the final line of inquiry and also supposing that independent tests did prove the curtains had traces of Madeleine’s blood, would that be all that was needed to bring a case against the McCanns? It would certainly indicate that the CSI dog Keela was accurate in her alert. The McCanns seem to have covered themselves on this one by Gerry’s PJ statement that M did have nosebleeds and Kate’s book, where she also says this was a possibility. However, it would add one more reason to doubt them, as children of Maddie’s age are usually very anxious about nosebleeds and would draw it to their parents’ attention. Not to be certain if she had a nosebleed in 5A is highly implausible, in our opinion.

And there would be Eddie’s markings, signalling the exact same locations where Maddie’s blood was found. Maddie missing plus Maddie’s blood plus cadaver scent is not a very complex mathematical equation to be solved very safely on this side of reasonable doubt.

The hairs from the Renault Scenic would be more likely to provide damning evidence - if they could be proved to be Maddie’s and showed post-mortem banding - a subject Paulo Rebelo was interested in. 4 hairs were preserved and sent to the Portuguese laboratory. Whether these hairs have ever been or will be re-tested, we have no idea.”

Dr Perlin's computational method is TrueAllele. The DNA-17 method is the UK testing kit which The Sun refers to. Dr Perlin said the DNA-17 method is actually 'really old' tech, but new for British labs. He said DNA-17 is incapable of deciphering the complex McCann samples.

It is meaningless. And the reason why it’s meaningless is in the video at 06:04.

If that is possible, then anything is possible, such as making a mistake when typing what was typed.

We do not believe that the people involved make mistakes like those. That simple. When mistakes like that appear, either there’s a technical explanation – which is the case – or then the “mistake” is not a mistake but something to mislead and feed conspiracy lunatics.

In this case, it’s evident that it was human error.

    2. Focusing only on the table and mocking distracts from its real significance. It’s the nightly staged neglect by 4 families which is the issue, including child said to be ill and needing a check for bad smells!

Were all of the children supposed to be drugged for 4 nights. Really? Or were they just extraordinary children, who slept through each and every night?

Neglect was highlighted by Michael Wright before the matter was ever mentioned by anyone else. (as Blacksmith observed)

For an abduction to be feasible, but non- prosecutable for neglect, 2 things were required:
      - The “ neglect” had to be more than 2 nights for any pattern to emerge.
      - The checks had to take place at intervals which allowed an abductor to enter.

G got very indignant with Sandra when she mentioned 15 minute intervals and corrected her to 30.

Forget the note in reception book as described in K’s book. It doesn’t exist.

Baptista/Batista, the waiter who alleged neglect but whose story kept changing, felt able to speak to the press, even though he was a witness and therefore supposedly constrained by judicial secrecy.

      Why?

He was also the person quoted in Vanished, by Danny Collins - a work of fiction, approved by Clarence Mitchell. How many people have read that book and wondered?

No table to seat all of them existed because if it they would have had it plastered all over the news and internet, Brunt the runt wouldn't have been able to stop himself showcasing it for all to see if it indeed ever exist. There's been a desperate attempt to keep the truth hidden yet again by (censored). (Censored), it does make you wonder to what lengths they really are willing to go to. Why do I say this? You try deviating from the paedophile angle and you instantly get shot down in flames, yet it's openly encouraged to talk about Maddie being abused with the blessings from her parents and some have even gone far enough to say some kids are bred for it. These groups talk about getting justice and the truth but always insist it could not be a sex scandal (hello Profumo scandal nearly brought down the government), as it's not illegal between two consenting adults to get such high-level help in the cover up, so therefore they direct their members back to the paedo angle again. All these so-called truth warriors who are fighting dirty for the other side have sold their soul and morals to which they really should be ashamed of themselves. One thing a previous poster has got right is how the public has been conditioned to love a good sex scandal by the media, yet strangely they've had to assist in hiding a massive one from the public so are in a way responsible for creating the monster. As much as I believe Kate and Gerry deserved to be punished for the part they played (really no need for all the interviews and world tour) it's the string pullers that need outing and punishing. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts and this case has proved how some believe they are above the law and it's plain wrong.

New Madeleine McCann Documentary Has Been Slammed By Kate And Gerry McCann

      Rebecca Shepherd in News

The parents of missing Madeleine McCann have slammed a controversial new documentary, that is expected to air on Netflix later this month, saying that it could 'hinder' the investigation.

Kate and Gerry McCann have refused to participate in the eight-part-crime series The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann and have said they do not see how it will 'help the search' for Madeleine who disappeared on 3 May 2007 from her bed in a Portuguese apartment.

Netflix is expected to air the programme later this month and it's reported to have cost the streaming service £20 million ($26.3m).

In their only statement about the docu-series, the McCann's said: "We are aware that Netflix are planning to screen a documentary in March 2019 about Madeleine's disappearance.

"The production company told us that they were making the documentary and asked us to participate.

"We did not see - and still do not see - how this programme will help the search for Madeleine and, particularly given there is an active police investigation, it could potentially hinder it.

"Consequently, our views and preferences are not reflected in the programme. We will not be making any further statements or giving interviews regarding this programme."

Madeline disappeared in May 2007 while she was on holiday with her family in Praia da Luz, a resort town in the Algarve, Portugal.

Madeleine and her two-year-old twin siblings were left to sleep in their ground floor apartment while Gerry and Kate McCann sat in a restaurant with friends 55 metres away.

The children were checked on periodically until Madeleine's mum discovered that she had gone missing at around 10pm.

Since her disappearance over a decade ago, a global search has been underway - and her story remains one of the world's biggest mysteries, nearly 12 years on.

However, her parents are trying to hold on to the hope that their daughter is still alive and on her 14th birthday back in 2017 they said: "We love you and we're waiting for you and we're never going to give up."

£20 million is indeed a lot of money to have wasted on a dud.

Taking into account that Ghoul Tour blogger warned us that Netflix were in Luz years ago, then it’s a project that has wasted a lot of time as well.

Wasted money + wasted time = significant waste of effort.

      Food for thought.

  64. Just read that Martin Brunt's fronting tonight's Madeleine show, not sure if it's true yet though, will have to wait and see.

  65. It's not Martin Brunt, however there are Summers and Swan, Colin Sutton (well-meaning but clueless) and Mark Williams Thomas. So you can imagine what kind of programme it is. They're making it sound like they're being objecive by giving Goncalo airtime but all they're doing is shoring up the official script. Neglect, Tapas candlelit dinners, Martin Smith sighting, blah blah blah.
