If Death is Kind

7 years and around 2H30 hours after she departed

Perhaps if Death is kind, and there can be returning,
We will come back to earth some fragrant night,
And take these lanes to find the sea, and bending
Breathe the same honeysuckle, low and white.

We will come down at night to these resounding beaches
And the long gentle thunder of the sea,
Here for a single hour in the wide starlight
We shall be happy, for the dead are free.

If death occurred around 17:30 would this be correct? presuming this was posted at nearly 8am..

We believe Maddie's death occurred, by accident, during David Payne's visit to the apartment on May 3rd, around 18H30.

The "2H30" refers to time the service will be held today in PdL: 21H00.

Then it will be, in our opinion, 7 years and around 2H30 hours after Maddie departed, unfortunately, departed this world.

    2. Anonymous 3 May 2014 11:13:00,

      Thank you for the link.

Let’s for a minute pretend that UK behaved correctly in 2007/2008 in Maddie’s case.

Let’s even pretend that SY and PJ are best of pals.

Let’s exaggerate the whole thing and pretend that not only SY wants to work side-by-side with PJ as PJ also wants to work jointly with SY on Maddie’s case.

      Is it possible?

No, we don’t think it is.

You see, JIT or Joint Investigative Teams are set up to face “offences WITH A CROSS BORDER DIMENSION”.

Maddie’s, although involving, both in the known (or publicly disseminated) version and in ours, a majority of British citizens is NOT a transnational crime.

It is a globally known crime. It has spawned transnational interest. But it happened in Portugal. And only in Portugal as far as we know.

To be blunt, UK has a great interest in this case because it involves its citizens but UK has absolutely NO LEGAL INTEREST in the case.

As it has “personal” interest in it, it should provide all possible help to the ONLY ones who have the LEGAL INTEREST in the matter: the Portuguese.

And as concerns all helps, it must be requested and never imposed.

And UK is really, really imposing its help when it isn’t being requested (when in 2007/2008, the help the Portuguese did request it then it merited a response of the “quality” that we now know).

But, in our exercise, we said that we wanted to pretend PJ wanted that help.

The fact that it isn’t an “offence with a cross border dimension”, the acceptance of such help would mean that PJ was assuming fully its incapability to do its job on own territory.

The word “investigation” does NOT include ONLY the gathering of evidence and making conclusions about it.

It’s not only about being intelligent in looking at data and being able to see what others have failed to see.

A criminal investigation involves a crime. Its end result is to determine who is accountable for having committed a crime.

That means that it’s a process that involves those “who did it” but, most importantly, involves those who didn’t do it.

These may have something to do with the case, such as the witnesses, but may also involve, and usually does, those that have absolutely nothing to do with the case: the potential witnesses. People who the investigators thought for some reason could be witnesses but then turn out to have nothing relevant to the case investigated.

This to say that any criminal investigation involves ALWAYS individual rights. The rights of perfectly innocent people. And an investigation is always on the verge of infringing. Not doing so because it is done by professionals.

ONLY a NATIONALLY TRAINED professional knows what limits to individual rights that an investigation is allowed to cross.

For that reason a Portuguese cop cannot question a citizen in the UK about a crime in the UK.

He also cannot question a UK or Portuguese citizen in the UK about a crime that happened in Portugal. He can ask the UK Police to ask the questions. Is it because of competence? No, because of individual rights involved. That’s why there’s sovereignties and jurisdictions.

A UK/Portugal JIT would only be set up in cases which the Portuguese police questions citizens in Portugal and the UK police questions citizens in UK concerning a hypothetical crime that would have to occur BOTH in UK and Portugal (e.g. drug, arms and human trafficking, etc).

In Maddie’s case the only possible reason for a PJ/SY JIT would have to be that it was a human trafficking crime BOTH in Portugal and in UK. UK, as far as we are aware hasn’t ever been pointed as possible destination for Maddie by anyone. Not a single sighting there when in the rest of the world Maddie was spotted everywhere.

So SY asking for a JIT is stupid. There’s no other word. To set up such a thing, as we said, there must be a strong suspicion that the crime extended to UK. If it extended to, say, Morocco, then PJ would have to ask help from Moroccan police, not SY or any other agency from UK.

For PJ to accept a JIT it would concede that it couldn’t do its job. That would mean that those responsible for manning the PJ weren’t able to man it with the adequate, in terms of competency, people, or that those who conceptualised the PJ did it without assuring that it could fulfil its mission.

In our opinion it would be illegal for PJ to accept such help even if it wanted to.

And all the UK whining has proved VERY CLEARLY that it doesn’t even consider it.

A last note about this “joint” subject and is directly to the UK authorities. Asking for a JIT based on “we will help you financially” is offensive. It’s to say that we the rich UK will help you the Portuguese peasants. We, the expensive-shoe-UK, will give you, the Portuguese-who-can-afford-to-buy-flip-flops a magnanimous and altruistic help.

Maybe promise the impoverished nation a knife and fork meal at the end? Maybe even with a steak made out of beef? We’re sure the Portuguese hunger-stricken will be mighty grateful.

It seems that you didn’t really understand the severity of the “sardine-munching” insult.
Please continue to spike the animal. Just don’t cry afterwards.

As always, anyone with better knowledge of international law can correct us.

The 2000 MLA Convention provides for specific forms of mutual agreements, inter alia the setting up of JITs. Subject to mutual agreements between two or more Member States.

The competent authorities of the respective States may set up a JIT for a specific purpose and for a limited period (yhis period may, however, be extended by mutual consent).

Any Member State investigating offences WITH A CROSS BORDER DIMENSION may request the setting up of a JIT.

The composition of the team will consist of law enforcement officers, prosecutors and judges and other relevant personnel.

The team will be led by a person from the State in which the JIT operates.

Although the members of the team may originate from various jurisdictions they are to carry out their duties in accordance with the national law of the territory where the investigation is taking place.

Investigations may be carried out in the Member State of operation by seconded members provided the approval is granted by the Member State of operation and seconded Member State.

      This is what SY wishes:
“Additionally, paragraph 9 permits a member of a JIT to make available to the team relevant information accessible in their State, provided it is in accordance with national law and that it falls within the limits of the seconded member’s competence.”

      But forgets that:
“Where investigative measures are being carried out the seconded team member is entitled to be present PROVIDED THAT THE COMPETENT AUTHORITIES DO NOT DECIDE OTHERWISE.”

MADELEINE MCCANN'S MUM KATE FURIOUS AT CRUEL PORTUGAL POLICE

MADELEINE McCann’s mum yesterday admitted the Portuguese police’s refusal to join forces with Brit detectives to find her daughter is “incredibly distressing”.

    By Jerry Lawton/Published 3rd May 2014
Kate, 46, appealed for police from both countries to speed up the search by forming a joint invest- igation team.

She said the current situation in which Met Police have to send formal letters to their Portuguese counterparts asking them to carry out inquiries on their behalf was causing “unnecessary delays and barriers”.

Kate spoke before taking part in a vigil with friends and neighbours in Rothley, Leics, yesterday to pray for Madeleine’s safe return – seven years after she vanished from a holiday apartment in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz.

She said: “Working together is key to the progress of the investigation and a joint team could provide a more streamlined way of working with less bureaucracy.

“It may be seven years since we last saw Madeleine but the passing of further weeks and months as a result of unnecessary delays and barriers are not only frustrating, they are incredibly distressing.”

It is the first time the McCanns have criticised the Portuguese police since forces from both nations launched separate fresh inquiries last year.

    3. Anonymous 4 May 2014 12:02:00,

Answering your question on whether Goncalo Amaral was bluffing about hair samples which may have come from Madeleine being in the possession of a Portuguese lab? It would seem not.

Portugal Resident – “Madeleine latest: raising yet more questions” March 21 2014

Goncalo Amaral described how vital leads in the case appear to have been dropped deliberately.

He talked of high-level political involvement which left DNA samples untested and key witnesses overlooked. He also said that DNA evidence from the McCanns’ rental car could have been more thoroughly tested and that hair samples were not followed up because the British lab claimed hair samples without roots couldn’t be tested.

“It is possible and it was possible at the time” Amaral insisted. “ These hair samples are in Portugal and they are in the files. It’s simple! All the public ministry has to do is take the hairs and send them to a European laboratory, or anywhere where these exams are done without roots.”

In a recent interview with CMTV, he stated that the hairs were returned to Portugal and appended in the process. If so, he is referring to the process- the PJ files- which were made available in 2008 and therefore available for checking.

      7B and 7C are items 23 and 24.

This, we think, must be the material GA refers to in the CMTV programme, when he says the hairs were returned and appended in the process.

It’s signed for and the signature seems to be that of Fernando Viegas, but it isn’t dated.

Fernando Viegas* and Luis Virido accompanied Professor Corte Real, President of the Portuguese forensic service to Leicester Police in November 2007, to obtain a decisive report on the DNA. As reported in Diario da Noticias on 29/11/07. So was it handed over at that meeting?

Two IFs follow here: IF this is the material Goncalo Amaral is referring to and IF the hairs are sent for testing and prove to be Madeleine’s, is this decisive proof? Would an innocent explanation for hairs being found in these particular locations be feasible or would it become part of a body of circumstantial evidence?

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

(*Viegas was no bungling amateur, although blamed by Lowe for contaminating evidence from 5A. He and Virido were described as experts. He must be feeling sore about this insult from the UK.)

MADDIE: PORTUGUESE POLICE BLAST BRIT COPS AND DENY ARRESTS WILL BE MADE SOON

    By Neil Chandler & Tracey Kandohla/Published 4th May 2014

Yesterday marked exactly seven years since the little girl vanished from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz on the Algarve.

But at a special prayer service in the McCanns’ home village of Rothley, Leics, dad Gerry, 45, said he and wife Kate had been buoyed by the Scotland Yard probe.

He said: “They are going back out to Portugal very soon. They are chipping away and there is new evidence.

“We are going to continue hoping we get a happy outcome – and one day we will know what’s happening.”

But the Portuguese have accused the Metropolitan Police of going on a “media offensive” over the case. They say leads recently publicised by the Met are “very flimsy”.

And they say claims about imminent arrests are not true.

A well-placed source said: “They’re pulling their hair out in relation to recent allegations by the Met.

“They’re very angry the ¬British police have gone on a media offensive.

“Furthermore, the information is not consistent with the information they have.”

Last year, Portuguese authorities agreed to re-open the probe into Madeleine’s 2007 disappearance after a review by the Met.

In January, British police suggested three burglars were prime suspects.

The source said: “The Met have sent them three letters saying they want to interview the three burglars…they’ve had those letters quite a long time.

“The Portugese are ¬saying ‘We have got it but we won’t be doing that tomorrow, not soon, not in the near future will we be acting on that. This is our investigation and we won’t be acting on the Met police stuff (any time soon)’. Relationships (with the Met) are so poor, they felt the Met would be better off building a relationship with them than going out doing press.”

In March, the Met appealed for information about a sex attacker linked to 12 break-ins in the Algarve.

Five young girls were said to have been sexually assaulted during four of the raids.

In an update last month, the Met said the appeal had yielded information on six more incidents, including an attack on a girl in Praia da Luz two years before Madeleine vanished.

The suspect, they said, was “smelly” and “pot-bellied” and it was reported that arrests might be made soon.

But our source said the Portuguese police believe the information publicised by the Met is “very flimsy” and claimed they had not shared the leads with them.

“The Portuguese are saying if your young girl has been assaulted while you are on holiday, why not report it then or at least as soon as you get home. If it’s a serious allegation of sexual assault, why not report it at the time?

“They are not saying these things didn’t happen but they are saying ‘Why is it all coming out now?

“They don’t know even the nature of these indecent assaults and it is all very flimsy.

“The Portuguese are saying lines of inquiry they (the Met) have aren’t ones brought to our intention and the relationship is very poor, this is a Portuguese investigation and the idea of imminent arrests isn’t true.”

Yesterday a tearful Kate, 46, told villagers at the low-key outdoor prayer service: “We are still battling, still hoping, still searching for Madeleine.”

She added: “The past seven years have been so difficult and painful.”

Interesting to see that EVEN the Daily Star is reporting this.

If readers don't remember, this rag was the ONLY one to give a hand to the McCanns in their Summer 2011 "desert crossing". No other tabloid would touch them during that time.

He points out that since the SY is so interested in "selling" the paedophile link, then it should start by investigating a complaint that is in the process, the testimony of Katherina Gaspar about David Payne's alledged paedophile behavior. From what I understand, Mr. Amaral believes that paedophilia is at the root of the case, not from a stranger, but within one or more members of the group.(remember that Gerry, of all people, was the one to whom Payne was talking to, when he made the finger in-and-out of the mouth gestures)

Which cop's? The portuguese, who deny the british lign of investigation, or the british, who could not digg anything in Portugal because the territory is not under their jurisdiction?
That sounds a lot like the " Birch digg in Murat's garden" . Somebody is trying to challenge some of the pierrots involved with the cover up.
Euclides was discharged by PJ and only a very stupid person believes the girl was buried near or in the Resort on May 2007. But her remains could have been transfered there after the archievement of the case and after the Media Calm down.
Interesting, the british media seems to be in a turning point. Some ligns of investigation are not "tabu" anymore. The Mccann's have lost the control of untide ropes and the best they can do is filling the media with interviews where there is no appeals to the abductor or to the public to keep searching their daughter, only a subtil admission of her death. I don't find a single sentence where they express their hope of a safe return of Madeleine or an anguish related with the pain the girl could have being through, if alive. Kate said in An. Interview, that Madeleine could have turning 11( years ) and start the secondary next September. The pass, used on her sentence, deserves an " IF" whch was obviously ommitted, but could easily be spoted "IFAlive".
How can this parents engage a so serious farce for so long and turn the point, switch off the botton so easy ? Who are they protecting? David Payne and his connections? Apart the swing, is there a Paedo ring involving people in high positions? I know, that Swing and Paedophilia look incompatible, but clearly, the Mccann's were forced to engage the circus to protect other people as well. And those people never came to daylight to show their support on Mccann's cause or to defend a strong investigation on the girl to recover her. Seems, they know she is dead and nothing could be done to help her and they don't want to be involved on any Children campaign like the " Amber Alert". That is something that always intrigates me... If one of my friends, neighbours, etc, had a children missing due to an abduction, I will do everything I can to help their case to be known and I will engage their fates and campaigns, 100%, and let the world know my support to atract others because on such cases " NUMBER IS POWER".
What we have seen on Mcc friends all this 7 years? LOW PROFILE, DISTANCE FROM THE HOT VOLCANO. They protect themselves and the Mccann's were forced to act and show work on that protection.

  44. If SY received information about the location of a body in PdL, this should have been passed to the Portuguese authorities. If this proposed digging is just a speculative guesswork, it would point to a hasty and panicked burial well before the 10pm alarm, as post 10pm, the village was swarming with searchers. And after this, why would anyone choose a burial place in open spaces in PdL?
Taking the findings of the dogs into account, it seems to me that SY want to conduct random digs, to find a child they now believe to be dead.
To dig and not to find does not equal alive. All of it makes no sense.

    http://textusa.blogspot.pt/2011/02/blogeditorial-decision-on-maddie-mccann.html

The only thing that it seems relevant to us is that it apparently is what justifies 1 of the 3 SY rog letters to PJ.

One third of SY's intensive work in the past 3 years. Estimating that the costs are now around 9,000,000 £, this would mean that these diggings have cost British taxpayers about 3,000,000 £ even before they started.

The Portuguese taxpayers will have to pay for the actual diggings. That's the downside of sovereignty. As this part of the farce is on Portuguese soil (literally), it’s up to the Portuguese to pick up the check. Pay the bill. Waste the money.

Now all we need to find out is what the other 6,000,000 £ are about. You know, the other 2 rog letters.

  47. JUDGE REFUSES ‘A NUMBER’ OF FORMAL REQUESTS BY SCOTLAND YARD IN SEARCH FOR MADELEINE

by Brendan de Beer, in News • 05-05-2014 21:55:00

A Portuguese police source has told The Portugal News that some requests by Scotland Yard detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have been “rejected due to a total lack of foundation.”

The ruling was made by a Portuguese criminal judge tasked with issuing search warrants applied for by the Metropolitan Police Service in the third and latest international letter of request sent to Lisbon earlier this year.

The police source stressed that contrary to latest newspaper reports both in Britain and Portugal, no digging has been scheduled with regards to the investigation.

A report in this Tuesday's Jornal de Notícias has however revealed that the Attorney-General's office has authorised digging in Praia da Luz, but said no date for these operations had been set.

But he reasoned that “if they are planning excavations, it means that they are looking for a body.”

As for reports that the digging could also serve to rule out the possibility that Madeleine is not alive, he questioned: “How many holes do you have to dig to rule out the existence of a body?”

He continued: “Why does the Metropolitan Police Service want to dig up holes if they believe Madeleine is still alive? How do you prove that somebody is alive by digging up holes?”

The police source reaffirmed an earlier position that the case was re-opened by Portuguese authorities to investigate a series of sexual assaults on children in the Algarve between 2004 and 2010.

“This was not uniquely to investigate Euclides Monteiro”, he explained, referring to the Cape Verdean national who died in a tractor accident on a golf course in Lagos, near Luz, back in 2009.

The source stressed: “All scenarios remain open.”

As for the modus operandi used by British detectives since the multi-million pound investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, codenamed Operation Grange, was signed off by Prime Minister David Cameron, the police source admitted: “Sincerely, it is not easy to understand them. But I’m sure they know what they are doing.”

He further questioned whether these latest revelations “which come after the anniversary of Madeleine McCann, have anything to do with the European elections and the need for the Metropolitan Police Service to prove to those who created this team that they have made some progress?”

Regarding the tactics employed by Portuguese police, he said: “We are completely committed to finding out what happened to Madeleine McCann. Our approach is humble and very honest. We have a complete notion of the difficulty and the importance this investigation has to all concerned and the need to obtain results. We are firmly committed to discover what happened. However, there are completely different ways of approaching the investigation. We prefer to talk less and do more.”

Scotland Yard were not immediately for comment on the refusal of some their requests, which are believed to total no fewer than 278.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2621343/British-police-leading-hunt-Madeleine-McCann-given-permission-begin-digging-Portuguese-resort-disappeared.html

"British police leading the hunt for Madeleine McCann have been given permission to start digging at the resort in Portugal where she disappeared, it has been claimed.

Specialist search teams will scour sites across the Praia da Luz holiday resort where she disappeared seven years ago, shortly before her fourth birthday, according to Sky News...

A source close the McCanns said it will be a ‘heart-breaking and hugely emotional time’ for the family.

‘Police have assured Kate and Gerry that it does not mean they are specifically searching for her body,’ he said.

‘They are doing searches as much as to rule scenarios out as much as rule them in. They will be concentrating on several different places at different phases.

‘Certain areas should have been searched properly way back by the Portuguese authorities but were not.’

The searches are not being conducted as the result of any new information, but senior officers are keen to rule out every possibility.

They have said privately that the searches are a difficult issue because they suggest Portuguese police should have acted before.

Her parents Kate and Gerry McCann - who have never given up hope that she could still be alive - have already been briefed by Scotland Yard on the plan...

  49. Just a thought...Madeleine, as far as we know is still a Ward of Court...
(coincidentally, I have just watched on the SIC tv morning show crime reporter Hernâni Carvalho say that he had had access to a document which declares that Kate and Gerry McCann have no legal say whatsoever over their daughter, because her wardship is with the court, under Mrs. Justice Hogg)

in the event of Madeleine's remains being found, will the WOC status be grounds to have the remains immediately removed to England thus preventing the portuguese authorities from doing any forensic tests ?
I don't know why, but I've always suspected that this was the real purpose of making Madeleine a ward of court...making her sort of a "property" of the british state.

This is very informative on why children are made wards of court:

    http://l-azzeri-lies-in-the-sun.com/Madeleine_Ward_of_Court.htm

Madeleine was made a WOC, under "The Child Abduction and Custody Act, and the Hague Convention", WITHOUT a single police evidence of an abduction! This is why I feel so suspicious of the real motives of the WOC request.

MADELEINE MCCANN: POLICE CONFIRM PORTUGAL 'ACTIVITY'

Police investigating Madeleine McCann's disappearance say "activity" is expected to begin in Portugal soon.

The disclosure comes amid reports Portuguese authorities have given permission for sites in Praia da Luz, where the toddler went missing, to be searched.

Met Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said he would be unable to provide details of the activity.

But he said he believed it would occur "in the coming weeks".

A letter was sent to media editors amid speculation about excavation work. Mr Rowley asked them to "think carefully" about information they published.

Madeleine was three when she went missing from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Algarve, in May 2007.

    No media updates

A request to search a number of sites was among a series of requests made to police in Portugal by British detectives working on the case, according to reports.

Mr Rowley said he had discussed the case with his opposite number in Portugal and highlighted the "high levels of interest" the activity would generate in the British media.

He said Portuguese police did not provide the media with updates on ongoing investigations.

Activity would cease if police in Britain gave out information or news reporters caused any disruption to their work in Portugal, he added.

Mr Rowley said the Portuguese authorities had been "more bureaucratic and slower" at processing requests than his team had wished.

But he asked the media to respect their requests as they carried out the work.

"We do not want to undermine our prospects of providing Mr and Mrs McCann with answers in this tragic case," he said.

    Seventh anniversary

It comes after the seventh anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance was marked on Saturday.

Gerry McCann, Madeleine's father, expressed his family's gratitude that the Metropolitan Police team was now moving on to a "very active" phase in its investigation.

He said at the weekend: "They are chipping away and obviously there is new evidence so WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO HOPE THAT WE WILL GET A HAPPY OUTCOME."

Kate McCann also disclosed last week that she returns to the Portuguese resort where her daughter disappeared to "walk those streets" and "look for answers" once or twice each year.

She also backed a revamped alert system triggered when missing children are kidnapped or their lives are at risk - known as Child Rescue Alerts.

    Intruder sightings

Scotland Yard launched a fresh investigation - codenamed Operation Grange - into Madeleine's disappearance last July, two years into a review of the case, and made renewed appeals for information.

A high-profile campaign by the McCanns and the Portuguese police investigation had so far failed to locate the missing child.

In March, British police said they were also seeking an intruder who sexually abused five girls in Portugal between 2004 and 2006.

Detectives say the attacks happened in holiday villas occupied by UK families in the Algarve.

Madeleine McCann. Dear PORTUGAL. The World is watching...

    Dear Portugal.
    The world is watching.
    Awaiting, with baited breath.
For whatever reasons, you have allowed the masquerade to go on for far too long.
You permitted an obvious and tangible interference, from the British Security services and its Government right from the start of this case, from the very night Madeleine McCann was reported as missing.
You allowed its mandarins to dictate the course of the investigation.

MADELEINE: LUZ BRACED FOR “EARTH DIGGERS EVERYWHERE”

According to the latest tabloid stories coming out of UK, Metropolitan police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are about to start digging in three areas in Praia da Luz - the holiday village from where the three-year-old went missing in 2007.

The Daily Mirror promises “earth diggers everywhere” and claims “it will be very dramatic”, while the Daily Mail adds that police will “not specifically be looking for a body” but more “hoping to rule possible scenarios out as well as find new information”.

The news follows endless stories of very different potential suspects - the latest of whom appears to be 77-year-old paedophile Roderick Robinson who jumped bail on child molestation charges in Australia and has since apparently changed his name and fled to the Far East.

The fact that Robinson was arrested on Olhão campsite in 2010 - three years after Madeleine went missing - is reported in the Daily Mail as being of vital interest to Metropolitan Police.

Meantime the Met is said to be waiting for the go-ahead from its Portuguese counterparts before forensic teams can start digging up areas in Luz.

Both the Daily Mail and Daily Mirror mention three sites - two near the Ocean Club resort where Madeleine and her family were staying, and one on the beach.

But the prospect of “diggers everywhere” just as the seaside village starts filling up with tourists for the summer season does not seem to be troubling Luz residents - few of whom are taking the story seriously.

“This is beyond parody,” said a former RAF navigator who has been following the mystery intently since 2007.

“But what this latest story would seem to suggest is that the abduction theory is now well and truly out the window.

“We’ve had so many people suspected of abducting the child, but none of them were thought to have been in the possession of heavy-duty earth-digging equipment when they did so.”

UPDATE: MADELEINE: “EARTH-DIGGERS EVERYWHERE” AN EXAGGERATION

A little more than a day after UK tabloids suggested earth-diggers would be “everywhere” in a heightened police search for Madeleine McCann in Praia da Luz, Sky News has reported that it is “unlikely” that high-profile excavations will take place during the busy tourist season.

Reporter Martin Brunt said it was much more probable that ground penetrating radar equipment would be used, and in a way that “would not be obvious” to passers-by.

The update comes as Portuguese police are reported to have sanctioned the Met's request for searches 'on the ground' and in stark contrast to reports in the Daily Mail and Daily Mirror - both of which suggested the holiday village would soon be turned upside down by fleets of JCB earth-movers “looking for clues” .

The Daily Mail claimed excavations would “not specifically be looking for a body” but more “hoping to rule out possible scenarios”.

Areas involved could include scrubland near the primary school - alongside which an Irish family are reported to have passed a man carrying a child on the night Madeleine was reported missing - and a road leading down from the Ocean Club complex, which was being dug up for new pipework when the McCanns first arrived on holiday.

Residents following this fast-developing story are intrigued. Said a former policeman: “Bearing in mind it is extremely difficult to bury a body at short notice in hard ground, this suggests that police are looking for something buried before May 3.

“Once Madeleine was reported missing, the village was crawling with journalists and search teams for weeks. No one could have buried anything.”

A former RAF navigator who has been following the story since 2007 added: “This certainly seems to have knocked the abduction theory into the long grass.

“We’ve had so many people suspected of abducting the child, but none of them were thought to have been in the possession of heavy-duty earth-digging equipment when they did so.”

      Thank you for your updates.

Like readers to note: “This certainly seems to have knocked the abduction theory into the long grass."

And: "probable that ground penetrating radar equipment would be used, and in a way that “would not be obvious” to passers-by.."

Basically saying, we're looking for a DEAD body. You won't be seeing us looking but we will be doing just that. So please don't ask nor be curious about where we are looking on a particular day, we just are. Results? Well, we are looking aren't we?

    2. To my recollection this is the first time that the Portugal Resident has printed a story with references to anonymous quotes which implicate the McCanns. What does "ruling out possible scenarios" mean? If they indeed are conducting a proper investigation, does it mean they are looking for a location where the body had been placed temporarily? And if that's the case how is ground penetrating radar going to help if the body is no longer there? They tell us that the radar equipment is going to be used in such a way that it is not going to be obvious to passers by, so why tell us that you're going to be using the equipment in the first place? Why tell us you're going to be digging? It makes no sense whatsoever?

      E tudo treta.

  62. This is a charade to whitewash the real criminals. I don't believe the girl was buried near the streets of PDL or in any place easily acessed by anyone. This did not make sense. After May 3, this places were packed by journalists and anonymous people, and after 7 years, the remains will have been exposed by a dog or by the rain.
If she was buried, must be in a house, a garden or in a special location in the Golf.
After all the help the Mccann's had in 2007, I think she was already transfered to UK.

  63. Madeleine must be very well hidden for the McCanns to be as arrogant as they are, she will not be buried anywhere where they are digging the McCanns would have ensured that Madeleine is never found. Dead Maddie = no more fund money = no more carter ruck.
She is probably buried somewhere like the basement of what would have been a rented or empty house back in May 2007 in pdl with the aid of that estate agent Murat who flew out to pdl in a rush to go to the aid of his swinging friends who were desperate not to be exposed for the swingers that the rest of the world suspects they are.

Understand your words but the way your comment is written it can be read that swinging is a crime.

Swinging is not a crime. Not illegal and as it's of private nature between consenting adults its not up to others to approve or disapprove.

The fact that society is judgemental about it is what led to this mess in the first place. If swingers felt they had nothing to hide, then nothing of this cover-up would have happened.

The idea is not to expose them for swingers but for having obstructed justice. They are only accountable for that and nothing else.

Avoiding to express derogatory comments about legitimate sexual options made by individuals is a small step each of us can take to avoid things like this from ever happening again.

    2. I agree swinging is not a crime, but this group through their actions have made it a crime. If it had been exposed for what it was ‘swinging’ it could have done untold damage to their professions and ultimately the NHS. High profile individuals involved or been involved with the swinging would have been exposed and I agree Society would be judgemental. It’s all about preserving reputations and ultimately never naming names which is the purpose of the fund to protect the guilty. When Kate was first made a suspect one of her comments was ‘what will my parents say/think’ which considering the circumstances is such an odd comment to make unless you are guilty of something and which suggests she felt awkward for whatever circumstances led to Madeleine’s disappearance being revealed. No feelings towards Madeleine’s fate just her own selfish self. All through this case the Mccanns have relied on the media to mislead the public with misinformation. I despair now when I read the utter rubbish printed about Madeleine McCann, if Amaral had been left to do his job without interference this case would have reached its rightful climax years ago. It was so important to this group that their sexual act ivies were not revealed they went so far as to introduce the Gaspars paedophile statements into the saga to create more confusion. IMO this was a clear case of swinging in a quite pdl fishing village out of season where everybody minded their own business and the coming and goings of adults were never questioned and where crime was practically nonexistent, but their actions have now made pdl appear to be the paedophile capitol of the world where no child is safe. Through their reckless unchecked behaviour and the ensuing cover-up this group have destroyed a once picturesque village and the livelihoods of the many. The root of this crime is swinging once that has been established everything else will slot into place.

    3. It's perfectly natural and healthy to be 'judgemental'. Drinking's not a 'crime' but these two selfish bastards would've covered up their kid's death even if that's all they were 'guilty' of. If they dumped their kids to indulge in abject adult selfishness, then, hey, judge away.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous 8 May 2014 22:16:00,

The word "abject" is totally uncalled for. Swinging is in no way abject.

The children were not dumped. It wasn't a family holiday. It was an adult holiday. Obviously the children could not be left with relatives who would ask questions and be just like you and think, wrongly swinging abject.

The children's time was planned and organised by professionals. They were not dumped but taken care of.

We ask readers to keep their judgemental comments to themselves.

      And insult also.

      Thank you

SY asked for house searches on former OC workers just because they were OC workers?!?
Is that the core of the 278 requests from 3rd rog letter? To hope to find out if someone kept a souvenir from Maddie after killing her? And being a worker makes a person suspect enough to have their house searched? What next, all Luz residents?
I've seen actors on stage who have forgotten their lines completely look less desperate than SY. What a pathetic circus

  65. This digging nonsense will come to nothing, it will never happen, I suspect...I heard today in the RTP news that the SY demand the reassurance from the portuguese police that they will be able to do their "searches" without "curious" eyes around (I suppose the media and the locals). It seems they want to "work" alone...does this mean NO PJ around too...?
Of course, that is a request that will be almost impossible for the PJ to fulfill...when the PJ wanted the McCanns and friends to come for a reconstruction, that was also one of the conditions imposed by Tapas 9, no media circus around Luz, or they would not participate. And...what happened? No reconstruction made! I have the feeling that the same will happen now, the SY will cancel it all and put the blame on the portuguese police for not being able to provide them with "suitable" work conditions.

  66. If I were the PJ, I wouldn't agree to SY searching on their own. Who knows what they might " find".
If they have specific intelligence about where to dig, it should be passed to the PJ. If they don't and it's guesswork, or just a show for the UK, it's the most appalling misuse of taxpayers' money.

Maddie: PJ deixa aviso à Scotland Yard
    Sociedade
